The Minnesota Vikings’ injuries in the first two weeks have hurt their performance. And it isn’t looking much better in the coming weeks. Minnesota came into the NFL season banged up and after weeks one and two it has only gotten worse.
Coming into the season, the Vikings were down a few key players. Those players included Harrison Smith, Christian Darrisaw, Zavier Scott, Elijah Williams, and Joe Huber. It is common for teams to have players inactive or injured but definitely less common in week one. During the game, the Vikings suffered four big injuries with three of them being on the defensive side of the ball. The injured players included Minnesota native Blake Cashman, Andrew Van Ginkel, Jeff Okudah, and running back Ty Chandler. All of these guys are key players to the way Minnesota operates and major adjustments had to be made mid game.

The Vikings defense also noticed the void of some of their starters. Going into the game they were missing veteran Viking Harrison Smith but it only got worse from kickoff. Throughout the game, 2 of our starting linebackers went down and one of our starting corners. Andrew Van-Ginkel and Blake Cashman are very important pieces to the Minnesota defense as Cashman is “the quarterback” of the defense. Meaning he is the one communicating with the rest of the defense what formation they will be in every play. Cashman played for Eden Prairie High School and the Minnesota Gophers.
