Your Sartell girls’ varsity soccer team is one for the books this year! This team has an unbreakable bond and are creating many unforgettable memories!
Most of these girls have been playing together since 7th/8th grade. This makes playing on the field together so much easier since they have been able to work on their team chemistry since a young age. They also have been able to form strong friendships over the years which creates for a better team culture.
Although the team is mostly made up of seniors, they have many grade levels within the team, even including an 8th grader. The girls started off the season strong with an away game at Anoka, they scored 3 spectacular goals to make for an amazing start to the season. The first goal was scored by Lexi Omann and was a beautiful shot to the right side netting of the goal; this was assisted by Mollie Statsick. This got the Sabres fired up because although it was the first goal of the game, it was also the first of the season.
The second goal came from Riley Quinn and was an absolute banger. Her goal was scored from far out, the ball hit the top and side post before going in. The last goal was a header from Lilly Breitkreutz off of a rebound from a corner, assisted by Mollie Statsick. The team has had 7 games so far including Anoka, Bemidji, Willmar, Alexandria, Moorehead, Brainerd, and St. Cloud Crush. They are currently 5-2-0, and are looking to add on some more wins in their upcoming games against Roccori, STMA, and Elk River next week.

About the managers: The team has two managers, Sophie Heathcoate and Liv Magarian. These two are also seniors and used to play soccer but chose to be managers this year as they are friends with everyone and love to help the team out. They provide many motivational talks, outside input, and also do some pretty cool game day hairstyles for whoever asks. Sophie and Liv’s decision to be managers this year, has been greatly appreciated by the coaches and players as everyone has had so much fun with them around.

Everyone is friends on this team which is another part to why they play so well together. There is no negativity within the team, they don’t get mad at mistakes but they push each other to work hard to fix them. They created a rule of “5 seconds.” This is used when someone loses the ball in a a game, if they make a bad pass or get the ball taken of their feet. They have to work hard for at least 5 seconds to get the ball back for their team. Even if they don’t get the ball back, they still have shown their effort for the team which everyone appreciates.

Along with winning games, this team also knows how to have fun. Every year the team will get together and have a sleepover. This has made for some very memorable moments. They dress up and have a costume contest to see what group has the best idea, the captains dress up as the refs so they can judge the other groups. Here are a couple photos of this year’s costumes!
As you can see, these girls are looking to go far this season! If you want to come support this team their next home game is next Tuesday, September 16th, against Rocori, this is also a youth night game so come out and watch the girls’ soccer team!
