Background-
Any current high school or college student is sure to be familiar with one of the most successful Disney shows of our childhood, Shake It Up. This show went on for 3 seasons and along with endless entertainment from the show itself, came the catchy songs that have become a time capsule for our age group. This album was released in 2011, and most of the songs were used multiple times throughout the show, which means that if you were a watcher of the show, these songs are sure to unlock memories from your childhood.
Being that this is the theme song of the show and it did play in every episode, it is extra familiar to anyone who saw the show. It is sang by Selena Gomez who was one of my favorite singers as a kid, and I really enjoyed this song when I was younger. What some watchers may have not known about this song, is that there is an extended version with more verses than what’s in the show. Overall, its a pretty well composed song that satisfies the ears. I would consider this one of the best Disney theme songs. This song appears a few times throughout the show and delivers every time. While it’s not the most lyrically profound, its main purpose has a lot more to do with being fun and catchy. It’s a solid peace of the “Shake It Up” soundtrack that definitely brings back memories. This song is all about the classic Disney theme of young love which definitely gave young watchers something to relate to. This song may not stray too far away from the typical pop formula, but it is still an easy-listen banger that is sure to charm listeners. This song was the perfect summer anthem for kids my age in the early 2010’s. This song is one of the most recognized from the show and is nearly impossible not to sing along to. “Watch Me” is one of the most iconic tracks from the entire show. Its lyrics are a little more deep in a way compared to the other songs in the album, but it still keeps the same energetic and fun spirit of the rest of the songs. This song is another example of a high energy and upbeat pop-sound with an 80’s workout song kind of vibe. It is used a lot as a background song that adds energy to the show. This song is a yet another example of a song that almost feels too advanced to have come from a Disney show. It has the same vibe as a Justin Timberlake song from the early 2000’s and I cant see anything this catchy and well crafted coming from Disney anytime soon. This song is definitely one of my least favorites because it really doesn’t stand out to me. It rings a slight bell in my mind as being used as a background song but it generally wasn’t that memorable and isn’t very groundbreaking as a song. It still keeps the same trend as being upbeat and catchy but is nothing special. This is my overall favorite song from the album. Its incredibly catchy, wasn’t overplayed on the show, and has effective and meaningful lyrics. This song feels a little more mature than the rest on the album in the sense that it could have been very popular without the show. I find this song stuck in my head a decent amount and I’m not complaining. This song is a little less hip-hop than the rest on the album which gave it more variety in the dances it went with. I really enjoy watching all of the different choreography that was on the show, especially to this song. This song is permanently cemented in my brain. I am pretty amazed with how accurate this song is to authentic hip-hop, Spanish style songs. It is apparent that the show used very real song writers and composers from the desired style of the song. This is yet another catchy song from the show but stands out in being stylized differently. This inspiring anthem has its own unique vibe while sticking the same tried and true formula of the album. Its mean to uplift kids watching the show and send them the message that they are strong. This song fits right in with rest of the album, being that it is upbeat and energetic. Its lyrics are simple and it relies heavily on effects to achieve its sounds. This makes it a fan favorite for those who enjoy electric beats. While this song isn’t on the main album, it is one of the most recognized songs from the show. It’s a fan favorite and still receives recognition from the media to this day. This album manages to have motivating songs that send a good message to watchers, while also providing them with good taste in m music, which is a tough line to walk. The legacy of this album still lives on and overall, this album is worth circling back to as a society.
