Drake’s meteoric rise in the music industry has been marked by chart-topping hits and widespread acclaim. However, recent events suggest a significant shift in his trajectory. Following Drake’s objective defeat in his rap beef with Kendrick Lamar in 2024, it seems that he has taken a real and lasting blow on his career, almost like an angel falling from grace. Ever since Kendrick’s massive club-banger diss “Not Like Us” dropped, Drake has done nothing but fumble left and right. The earliest example was the release of the song “Wah Gwan Delilah” by Snowd4y featuring Drake. Soon after his defeat, Drake wasted no time to start dropping straight trash, It really was a bad look as this was one of the first songs he decided to drop after the beef, immediately making Drake the laughingstock of the hip-hop community. And if you don’t believe how bad it is, just take a listen for yourself:
Well, after the feud, Drake released the album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U earlier this month in February 2025, a collaboration project with PartyNextDoor. And it’s safe to say, people have been largely unimpressed, with many describing the album as lackluster and uninspired. If his fall-off wasn’t apparent before, it was now to many fans and haters alike. Many joked about how “Drake got beat so bad he can’t make music anymore”, but deep down, everybody knew nobody was joking as the music was right in front of them, and it sounded pretty trashy.
Jokes aside, the album wasn’t the worst music of all time or unlistenable, but for someone like Drake, who everybody knows has real talent and has made great music before, it was a significant drop in quality. It almost sounds like he didn’t even bother trying on the album, and as a result, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U stands as likely his worst album to date.
I’m not done hating on the album yet. The tracklist of this project is extremely inflated with garbage, with a duration that is way too long for a project that has way too little substance and memorable moments. It’s so incredibly repetitive and boring, that I’m not even attempting to write a full length review. In fact, the album was so trash that the biggest internet buzz surrounding it is entirely centered on how terrible one of the tracks sounded. “Meet Your Padre” could quite possibly be the worst song I have ever listened to, Drake’s disgusting half-Spanish, half-English verses are very unsettling and laughable to listen to, and the feature by Chino Pacas is equally as bad.
Among this sea of mediocrity lies a sliver of taste with tracks like “Nokia,” where Drake actually tries something new and sounds good. Unfortunately, these standout tracks were not enough to save the album.
Overall, it’s just becoming quite evident at this point that Drake has clearly taken a tumble since losing his ego and apparently also his talent after the beef. It’s also blatantly obvious that he’s taking it pretty badly as he recently sued Kendrick for “Not Like Us”, demonstrating his inability to move on.
