This intro track is so wholesome with a spoken word feature from Dave Chappelle. With only this soul sample in the background, Chappelle explains his dislike of the word “deserve.” Why would someone less fortunate than him “deserve it”? So he is saying “thank you” to God for how he turned out.
This song brings you right into the sound of the album, but with a different vocal performance from Anderson .Paak. He shows off his rapping ability with a swinging, beautiful beat from Knxwledge. His bragadocious lyrics with call backs to his Super Bowl LVI performance involvement and giving the old gen rappers their flowers.
“MoveOn” feels like a part two of the previous song, with the perfect transition into this song. It has this trippy background vocals repeating the title of the song with these delightful acoustic guitars. The chorus lines up perfectly with the background vocals and creates such a genius, catchy, and smooth part of the song. Anderson .Paak’s vocals sound so soulful. His lyrics explain how he’s unable to do things he used to, which may mean his physicality and love life. The only problem with this song is that it isn’t long enough.
What immediately pulls you into this song is Knxwledge’s production. The electric guitar and bass make this song so funky and sexy. Thundercat is one of the best features on the album with his incredibly unique voice. Anderson .Paak’s vocals are so passionate and add so much to the song.
You are instantly greeted with these beautiful acoustic guitars, which you could say distract you from Anderson .Paak’s wonderful vocals. This song is such a vibe, and the chorus is catchy and so easily gets stuck in your head. Anderson .Paak’s verse before was so clever that you may have missed that he was counting from 1 to 13 in his wordplay. The song ends with this trippy and distorted soul sample and transitions perfectly into the next song.
There’s not much to say about this song because it’s an instrumental from Knxwledge. Even though it’s just an instrumental and a short 54 seconds long, it sounds so perfect with this string and vocal sample. It plays a mellowed preview of the next song, which creates a perfect transition yet again.
Almost every song from this album is so chill, but this track feels so laid back and cool. It has a sexy guitar and funky drum beat. Anderson .Paak delivers smooth vocals with a very catchy chorus. Another feature from H.E.R. sounds so good, and they haven’t missed yet on this album.
This song is one of the most popular songs off the album and is definitely one of my favorites. It has everything you need in a song: a nice guitar riff, spacious drums, synths, and a chorus that leaves you wanting more. Don’t forget about the amazing guitar solo that will give you chills. This song reminds me of “Funky Ride,” which is one of my favorite songs from Outkast that happens to be a music duo as well.
This has to be my absolute favorite off the album. The production sounds like a romantic dance in a movie with these harmonizing vocals in the background. The feature from October London, with their high-pitched vocals, adds so much to the chorus. Anderson .Paak sounds passionate and is so good at storytelling. With a kind of silly spoken word from Snoop Dogg, you’re left mesmerized by the song.
The problem with this song is that it’s too short. This is definitely one of the more romantic and freaky songs. The super nice production from Knxwledge with another use of electric guitar sound is so good on the ears. You’re going to be singing this song all day.
After some melodic and lovely songs, Anderson .Paak shows off his lyrical ability while still being able to show off his usual vocals. He talks about his upbringing and his struggles of making choices in life and love. It ends with beautiful female vocals that will take you away to a different place. This is another perfect song from the duo.
This is another interlude-like song with an organ and light drum instrumental. Anderson .Paak is maybe talking about his recent divorce before this album and how it didn’t work out, and that he is single again. Not much to say about this song except that it gives another perfect and clever transition into the next song.
You are instantly met with this hard drum beat that sounds compressed yet spacious at the same time. The best part of this song is the chorus, which some may say gets repetitive, but I never get tired of it. The feature from Rae Khalil sounds so beautiful and melodic and fits perfectly in the song. This is an instant hit and is definitely one of my favorites.
With an album so good, there are so many favorites, so I have to say this is another one of them. The song is introduced with this trippy and spacious instrumental with Anderson .Paak’s vocals are pitched up and almost distorted. Soon, the song switches into this awesome beat where Knxwledge gets to show off. He samples this beautiful soul song and makes it into a beat that needs to be rapped on. This song gives a little break from the vocals and showcases the production.
You could consider this yet another interlude-like song with a string instrumental that just sounds rich and fancy. It fits perfectly with Anderson .Paak is talking about his riches and wealth, and what he can do with them. For example, saying he just paid off his mother’s mortgage.
Charlie Wilson always does his thing on features. His voice is so soulful and is perfect for the chorus. In this song Anderson .Paak is reflecting on what he did to his previous relationship and shows a lot of regret. Again, the production is on point from Knxwledge, and you may think this song needs to be longer until you hear the next song.
This song was transitioned into so good that it feels like the exact same song. You wouldn’t even notice unless you looked at the change in the name of the song. The bright production and background vocals sound so good with Anderson .Paak’s voice. Even the lyrics feel like a continuation of the previous song. He starts to express his love for his ex-wife and wonders if it’s too late. Cute but sad lyrics with spectacular production.
Nearing the end of the album, they put one of the best songs on it. Knxwledge goes for an almost more hip-hop-like beat with this old-sounding guitar and light drum beat. This song dives into themes of struggle and complex relationships. An unexpected feature from rapper Earl Sweatshirt, who performs a nice verse. Maybe my least favorite feature performance is from Rae Khalil, but it definitely doesn’t ruin the song. This is the final “complete” song and is a perfect ending for Anderson .Paak.
With only 25 seconds of run time, Knxwledge gets his own instrumental outro. He creates this hard jazz beat that encapsulates the whole sound of the album. After 19 tracks, you are left waiting for more.
