Erewhon is a popular upscale supermarket that is based all over the Los Angeles area. Erewhon is also infamous for having unreasonably high prices for their produce and other items. Berries at Erewhon cost around $12.99 per pound, and on average in the US the price per pound of berries ranges from $2 to $4. In addition to the market, Erewhon also features a cafe which gained a lot of attention in 2022 when they released a smoothie in collaboration with Hailey Bieber. Since the release, the smoothie has gone viral on social media and has been very popular ever since. Recently when I was in the LA area, I went to Erewhon and taste tested the smoothie so here are my thoughts on it!

The Hailey Bieber smoothie, aka the Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie, is made of an interesting list of ingredients. It has Malk organic almond milk, organic banana, organic strawberries, organic avocado, organic dates, organic maple syrup, Vital Proteins vanilla collagen, vanilla stevia, sea moss, Zuma valley organic coconut cream, and Driscoll’s organic strawberry glaze. The lineup sounds odd, and I expected it to not taste great, but when I tried the smoothie I loved it. Overall I would describe the flavor of this smoothie as a fresh strawberry, not so much like strawberry milk or ice cream, but as if you mashed up a fresh strawberry and ate it with whipped cream. The flavors in the smoothie were balanced perfectly and the texture was also a 10/10. The smoothie was very thick but still easily drinkable with a straw. I also liked how the smoothie was smoothly blended and also had some rough strawberry chunks in it.
The purpose of the smoothie release was to promote Hailey Bieber’s skincare brand, Rhode. Erewhon claims the smoothie will make your skin glow if you drink it consistently. The sea moss and collagen is supposed to help you look youthful and give your skin a clear glow. Since I only drank the smoothie once, I did not notice any change in my skin; but it’s hard for me to imagine the drink actually makes your skin change.
Now the big question we are left with, is it worth the price? The Hailey Bieber smoothie cost a total of $20 for 20 ounces. I don’t think I can justify it being $20, but I do know if I lived near an Erewhon I would find myself spending way too much money on these smoothies. The main reason for the price is because of the high end produce used to make it and other fancy ingredients like sea moss.

Overall, I would recommend trying the Hailey Bieber smoothie if you find yourself near an Erewhon, and I do believe the smoothie is worth the hype. The freshness, balance of flavors, and texture of the smoothie is unmatched. Now I find myself craving one of these smoothies all the time, and I would easily choose to have the Hailey Bieber smoothie over Starbucks any day.
