Honoring those who have been a big part of Sartell’s athletic history is very important to those who brought the idea of a Hall of Fame to life.
Currently under construction, the Hall of Fame is expected to be an important addition to the Sartell School District.
Bruce Thompson the AD at Sartell High School, had the goal in mind of honoring a new class of athletes every four years through the use of a Hall of Fame.
Thompson explains the admission process for members of the Hall of Fame: “In order be a part of the Hall of Fame, you need to be five years removed from high school. Students are able to nominate candidates for the Hall of Fame. The student body will also be involved in helping with giving tours of the new high school to the newest members of the Hall of Fame.”
Although the Hall of Fame has not been finished, there have already been multiple people who have had a large effect on Sartell athletics admitted into the Hall of Fame. There are around 80 members of the Hall of Fame currently, all of whom are either athletes from Sartell, coaches, or community members who have heavily influenced Sartell athletic programs. Each member will be showcased by their own plaque hung on a wall which will be a part of the Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame will be showcased in the athletic wing of Sartell High School.
There have been some challenges faced while building the Hall of Fame. Between COVID and problems with water leaks on the drywall, the project has been pushed back a number of times; however, the high school AD is hoping that the Hall of Fame will be fully finished by December 1st.
Sartell has an all-sports booster club that is funding almost all of the Hall of Fame expenses. All of Sartell’s sports will still have their total funding as usual even with the added expense of the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is meant to represent the whole district, and there is great support in the building process from Superintendent Tom Lee and the district leadership.
