In late September, the Minnesota Wild re-signed star forwards Marcus Foligno and Mats Zuccarello, in hopes to bring the Stanley Cup to Minnesota.

The Minnesota Wild had their Stanley Cup hopes cut short last year, losing in the first round to the Dallas Stars. Game 1 had ended in a Wild win after forward Ryan Hartman scored in second overtime, as the Wild took a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was quite the opposite. The Dallas Stars came out firing on all cylinders beating the Wild 7-3. Game 3 went in the Wild’s favor. As the Wild won 5-1, now putting the series at 2-1. The series continued the trend of back and forth as the Dallas Stars took game 4, 3-2. Until game 5, when the Stars won 4-0 putting the series at 3-2 in the Stars favor, and finally game 6 where the Wild’s hopes were shut down losing the series to the Stars 4-2.

After last year’s heartbreaking loss in the playoffs, the Wild are looking to bring back some talent into Minnesota to increase their chances at the Stanley Cup. Their first step in doing this was re-signing Marcus Foligno on Septmeber 29, 2023. Foligno isn’t the most offensive player on the Wild, but he makes a big presence on the ice. Foligno only finished with 7 goals and 14 assists but with 237 hits and 97 penalty minutes in 65 games, his presence was seen all over the ice. Foligno brings the grit to the Wild.

A day later, the Wild re-signed star forward Mats Zuccarello. Unlike Foligno, Zuccarello brings some offense onto the ice, with having 22 goals and 45 assists in last years campaign. He was the second highest point scorer on the team.

Bringing these players back into the organization will bring some veteran presence onto the team as well as some offensive and defensive talent.
