Most people have that one item of clothing that means the world to them. Whether it brings back fond memories, belonged to a loved one, or just brings you comfort, clothes have a way of reminding us of the things that we hold most dear.
I asked a handful of people in the Sartell area if they had anything that brings them a significant amount of comfort or happiness.
“I would say my pearl necklace because I wear it every day, and it makes every outfit like a little better.”
“It means a lot to me because it keeps me warm so I don’t freeze to death.”
“My sister gave it to me and she always said that it got her through college.”
“I would say this sweater is super important to me because it was my first time truly going out of state, nonetheless the ocean. The trip made me fall in love with the ocean and traveling.”
“A very close friend of mine knit it for me in our first couple weeks of friendship and it means a lot that she was willing to put in this effort to make me something that I wanted. It is a replica of a Taylor Swift scarf that she knew I had wanted but didn’t have time or money to get; it is a symbol of love and true sympathy. She also knit me a matching set of mittens and a hat as signs of love and appreciation.”
“This means a lot to me because my nana gave it to me before she passed.”
“An article of clothing that means a lot to me is my gold necklace. I got it for my 16th birthday from my parents. On the back of it is the phrase “love mom and dad” engrained on it. I wear it every day because that way I keep them “heart to heart.”
“I got it at a ren-fest when I was younger and my mom has just kind of altered it to fit me as I grew up.”
For me the article of clothing that really means the most to me is the sweater that my mom bought when she was in college that she gave to me. It reminds me of how much her love means to me, and I plan to take it with me wherever I go.
