Let’s Groove Tonight! Sartell Dance Team hosts annual dance show.
December 5, 2022
On Saturday, November 19th, Sartell Dance Team debuted its 2022-2023 winter dances at their annual dance show. The team performed their winter competition dances for the first time. These include Disco Nation (varsity kick), I Put a Spell on You (varsity jazz), That’s Alright (JV kick), and Separate Ways (JV Jazz).
Not only was this show an opportunity for the team to show off their skills, but also for other studios and teams to practice performing in front of a crowd.
These teams include: Cathedral Dance Team, Holdingford Dance Team, Foley Dance Team, Albany Dance Team, St. Cloud Crush Dance Team, Zimmerman Dance Team, Rocori Dance Team, ACGC Dance Team, Marshall Dance Team, Studio B, Ms. Melinda’s, St. Cloud School of Dance, and Just For Kix.
The show was not competitive, but judges were there scoring the high school dances so that they are able to see which areas they need to improve upon in the upcoming season.
In an interview with captain Claire Quinn, she was asked what her favorite thing about dance is, she said, “I just love being able to dance with my whole team in different styles and with different emotions.”
Claire said that she has been dancing since she was two, and when she was asked about how she feels about this being her senior season, she said, “It went by super fast.”
When asked what part of the two shows went best for her, sophomore Lola Sens stated, “Jazz because we were most nervous about jazz due to the fact that we wanted to be able to keep up with Bennie (referring to last seasons varsity jazz, Bennie and the Jets) and I think we really stayed at that level.”
I asked senior Aili Swenson which part of the show she was most nervous for and she said, “The turns in kick, because I don’t always get them during practice and the floor is really slippery.”
I then talked to two freshman on the team and when asked what she had been most nervous for, Evelyn Drewes said, “Probably being a freshman and dancing with all the good seniors who have been on the team for so long.” and when asked what she thought went best for the day, Kaylin Ruth told me, “I think that we all came together as a team and all tried our best to make the dances come together.”
