Wow. This was one of the most incredible concert experiences I’ve had in a while. It was absolutely astounding all around. No flaws. His energy was through the roof and the audience pulled through so perfectly to match his vibe.
This was another performance I saw at Fine Line, which is immediately a plus as it is one of my favorite venues. I will say there were a lot of people pushing me around to move in and out of the crowd, which is alright, but still moderately annoying after the third or fourth time. You can only almost fall over a few times before it starts getting irritating. Luckily though, the rest of the crowd made it a good time anyway.
I was worried I wouldn’t be able to see it, but it was an audience full of the shortest people I have ever seen. I loomed over them and managed to get a really magical view despite being closer to the back of the venue.
The big thing with this show was the energy. Ricky Montgomery was high-energy the whole time and never skipped a beat. He was so into the show the whole time, to the point where he was a little unhinged at certain moments. It was incredibly entertaining, and it really allowed me and many other shy people to let their hair down and really start moving and having a good time.
His genre is a mix of indie-pop and bedroom pop. It is pretty chill-sounding stuff most of the time, with a couple more fast-paced songs throughout his discography between his solo gig and his work with ‘The Honeysticks,’ which is his second band.
A couple of my favorites from him are ‘Snow,’ ‘Mr. Loverman,’ and ‘My Heart is Buried in Venice’ (All from album Montgomery Ricky, 2016). They are some of his more sad or longing songs, I’ll admit, but they are just so good and pleasing to the ears. His voice was so gorgeous and translated so well to a live performance. I will definitely be seeing him again when he comes back through the cities.
The merch table was super laid back and had a surplus of all sizes, including plus-sized options, which is always very exciting for me. The merch is also genuinely so cute, and I absolutely adore the design that was put on it.
He was so interactive with the audience. At the end of the show, he threw out paper airplanes to the audience, and my friend actually caught one. It turned out to be an autographed copy of the concert’s setlist. To say the least, my friend is going to be framing it, because how cool is that?
Overall, this concert had incredible energy and the performance was absolutely flawless. I would recommend his music to anybody any day.
