Robin Williams lived a tragic life in the Hollywood spotlight from 1951-2014 due to his internal struggles. Some
may recognize Robin Williams and automatically think of his many notorious roles in popular movies. However, Robin Williams was also known for his main act as a stand up comedian.
As the saying goes, the funniest people are often the saddest individuals. This was very much accurate when describing Robin Williams’ life. According to WatchMojo.com Youtube clip, Williams grew up in an acceptable family home and lived a suitable childhood. He grew up to be well-liked by his peers and received excellent grades. However, his parents were never home and he was often left with the maid in the lonely family home. After graduating high school, Williams attended Julliard only to drop out his junior year to be a stand up comedian. According to Britannica, he was so successful that by the mid 1970s, he started starring on many television shows. Some of his movies recognized by Variety.com was the original Aladdin, The Birdcage, Dead Poets Society, Fisher King, and so
many more. With his prominent acting career he went on to receive many awards. The article Emmy.com describes how in total he received nine Emmy nominations and two Emmy awards.
However, there was a dark side to Williams’ life. Within William’s last years of life, he suffered from paranoia, insomnia, hallucinations, and confusion, all evident symptoms of the disease called Lewy Body Dementia. According to USA Today, this type of dementia rapidly affects the victim’s motive skills, prohibiting them from basic problem solving and making everything harder to comprehend. He was making great strides to overcoming his disease according to his wife when they decided to switch his medicine. Then one Monday morning, in his California home, William was found dead due to apparent suicide. He had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for many years, trying to become sober multiple times. According to The Star Entertainment,
he reportedly became sober for about 20 years at one point, but then fell off the wagon within the last month before his death. His family and fans started to realize that with every joke he told, there was some sort of truth to it. With this being said, Williams isn’t remembered by his rocky past, he was known at one point for being the funniest and smartest guy in the world. He also is remembered for being a genuinely sweet guy with a big heart.
