Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez

Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is a current politician on the rise in the United States as she represents the new generation and their new beliefs.

According to Charlotte Alter a National Correspondent at Time Newsletter, Alexandra’s life before her unforeseen popularity was known to be “normal.” She graduated high school with the intention of continuing her education in biochemistry throughout college. Through her financial struggles, AOC managed to graduate from

Boston University with a degree in economics and international relations. Soon after graduating though, she had to move back to help support her family after her father’s death.

While working at an educational nonprofit and a taco joint, AOC encountered an event that inspired her career in politics. The event took place in the Midwest where she supported the fight against the building of the Dakota Pipeline on Native American soil. On her way back from the Midwest, she received the most important call in her career asking her to run for Congress. She graciously accepted this opportunity and became the youngest member of congress.

Shortly after this, Alexandra kick-started her career and has never stopped climbing. She went from being an ordinary girl to the second most talked about politician in America next to the President. She’s a normal person fighting to have a voice about normal people.

With this newfound popularity though comes challenges. When talking about AOC she is either recognized by people as a hero or villain. After replacing multiple powerful voices in the government such as Hillary Clinton and Joe Crowley, people tend to form different opinions. One strong opinion about her though, is that she is a fresh new voice advocating for the new generation and those to come. 

With that new voice, Alexandra has also done a lot of extra work on programs she is passionate about. These programs include the Green New Deal, Medicare for all, abolition of ICE, Free College for All, and so much more. She is known to follow Sanders’ path and win the hearts of people, not their minds. Rather than being concerned about the election, she is worried about movements.

As most people know her for, she is the future as she is planning her agenda years in advance. Even with all the amazing benefits Alexandra has, there comes one drawback. At the moment, due to the 35 years old age requirement, AOC is too young to run for the 2020 elections. However with the way her career is unfolding most people believe she will run for the democratic elections in 2024.
