The best of the blended: specialty smoothies
This week on he Good, the Bad, and the Delicious, Savanna went to three different specialty smoothie shops, Liquid Assets, Local Blend, and Rock Creek Coffeehouse and rated them out of 5 smoothies to figure out the best of the blended
Liquid Assets:
Tuesday afternoon I went to Liquid Assets in Sartell and for $4.75, I got a medium sized strawberry banana smoothie. The wait once I got there was pretty long for how not busy it was, but it was understandable since she did have to blend it herself. When I got the smoothie, I took a picture first, obviously, but then I drank it and the first thing I thought was that it was super sweet. Like too sweet for a “healthy” smoothie. Sure it tasted like strawberry and banana, but the copious amounts of sugar overshadowed the taste of it. It really just tasted like a more sugary version of a McDonald’s smoothie. Probably only 3.5 out of 5 strawberries.
Local Blend:
I was impressed and awed at the concept of the shop. It is super unique and cozy, perfect for college students.
The straws and containers used for their drinks are all compostable and made of recycled materials, which makes me feel so much better about spending $5.17 on a strawberry smoothie. Responsibly sourced or not, this was probably the most lackluster smoothie of the bunch, but it goes without mentioning that the smoothie was organic and all that good stuff, it just lacked that wow factor. The whipped cream on top was gorgeous but again I was disappointed in the smoothie. 3 out of 5 strawberries.
Rock Creek Coffee House:
Located in Sauk Rapids, Rock Creek Coffeehouse is an eclectic mix of modern and unique, new and old, as well as good and bad. For $4.36 or something close to that you can get a medium sized strawberry smoothie from a local business. This smoothie may have been the best of the three, but I probably wouldn’t get it again, in other terms, it was the most balanced of all the smoothies, but not great overall. I love the vibe in Rock Creek, and I’m sure the coffee is great, but smoothie-wise, I’d say save your money. 3.75 out of 5 strawberries.
