Volcano erupts in Hawaii

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano has been erupting and causing widespread damage and evacuations this past week, with new reports stating possibilities of hurling ash and boulders.

Almost 2000 people have been evacuated due to the lava flows, destroying nearly two dozen homes and threatening many more. The newly added threat of explosive eruption could cause widespread casualties and the grounding of airplanes, among other dangers.

The boulders and ash, resulting from the volcano blowing its top in the coming days, have the possibility of being the size of refrigerators and being thrown miles into the air.

A geothermal energy plant is at risk to the lava outbreak. As a precaution 50,000 gallons of pentane were removed from the grounds.
