The Met Gala’s exhibit focused on the catholic church’s effect on fashion

2018 Met Gala: “Heavenly Bodies”

The 2018 Met Gala in New York this Monday was home to several celebrities as they attended the “Heavenly Bodies” exhibit on Catholicism’s effect on fashion.

The evenings guest included Kim Kardashian, Rhianna, and Sarah Jessica Parker, among other celebrities. The event, which brings out some of the most creative outfits, was themed “Sunday best” and many celebrities followed suit.

Rhianna, devout Met Gala theme follower and co-chair for the occasion, showed up in custom Maison Margiela, sporting a pope themed ensemble. Ariana Grande, a first time Met Gala attendee, wore a Vera Wang dress of the Sistine Chapel’s murals. Blake Lively won the most elaborate outfit, with her accessories totaling nearly 2 million dollars, and donning a custom Versace that took over 600 hours to hand embroider.

The 2018 theme sparked some controversy online as some felt it was appropriating Catholicism with their outfits.
