Power outages in Puerto Rico
Seven months after hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico is hit once again with a statewide power outage last Wednesday, pushing back the already long struggle for restoration progress.
An excavator hired under Cobra Acquisitions allegedly started the blackout. Governor Ricardo Rossello has called on the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority to cancel its current contract with the subcontractor. The same company is also responsible for the power outage of over 800,000 Puerto Rican citizens last week after a tree fell on a power line.
After Hurricane Maria, which caused widespread damage and power outages in Puerto Rico, restoration has been slow and inconsistent. Controversy surrounding the power companies in Puerto Rico have raved on for the seven months following the storm with the House Committee on Natural Resources recently beginning an investigation into Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Authority after claims of oversight throughout the country.
