Tillerson joins list of White House departures
Rex Tillerson has been ousted as Secretary of State this week, adding to the long list of resignations and firings in Trump’s White House.
Tillerson is set to be replaced by Mike Pompeo, the current C.I.A. director. John Kelly, who told Tillerson to return from his Africa trip stating he may “get a tweet,” warned him earlier last week. The first news of his departure was broadcasted on Trump’s twitter this Tuesday, being the first official statement on Tillerson’s firing.
This follows a steady amount of instability between Trump and his chosen Secretary of State who often had differing opinions on topics such as how to handle Russian cyber attacks and manipulation. Trump cited inabilities to work together saying, “Really, it was a different mindset, a different thinking.”
Tillerson marks another departure in a group of nearly 20 resignations or firings since the beginning of Trump’s presidency. Trump stated last week in a White House news conference that he liked conflict and that he enjoyed having “two people with different points of view. I like watching it, I like seeing it, and I think it’s the best way to go. I certainly have that, and then I make a decision.”
