Conor Lamb wins in special election

Democrat Conor Lamb in Pennsylvania won a house seat by slim margins this week in a district won by Trump two years prior.

Pennsylvania voted in a special election, which is used in case of “emergency” such as a death or resignation. The spot was opened, due to a scandal of the former representative Tim Murphy, after his resignation.

Conor Lamb won 49.8% of the votes, with Republican Rick Saccone only getting 49.6% of them. This is quite the upset in what was once a Republican dominated district.

There has been an increase in the number of Republican districts going Democratic in special elections since President Trump’s inauguration. This was widely documented in the Alabama special election when Doug Jones defeated Republican Roy Moore to be the first Democrat elected to U.S. Senate in Alabama in 20 years.
