A new review group, “Two Foodies,” goes on a road trip to Minneapolis, MN to share their opinion on Vietnamese cuisine.

We traveled to Pho 79 located at 2529 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN. We drove approximately one hour and thirty minutes. This is one of our favorite places to eat, and we definitely recommend!
Pho 79 is right in the heart of Minneapolis, and it has much to offer! This restaurant offers a way to dive into the world of Vietnamese cuisine. Pho 79 is known for its authentic flavors and welcoming atmosphere. Many people are ecstatic about the beautiful representation of the dishes. One of these dishes is the pho, said to be brimming with generous portions of tender meat and flavorful broth that captures the true taste of traditional Vietnamese cooking. The surrounding area of the restaurant adds to the cozy feeling of tradition. Creating a cozy and comfortable environment where you can get lost in the food. The customers appreciate the comfort they feel when they enter the building.

We made the drive to Pho 79 on 9-6-25 and we tried a variety of food. Rylee got the vegetable fried rice, and I got the chicken fried rice. The rice had a mixture of different vegetables and seasonings. It had a savory flavor with a hint of sweetness. We both gave the rice a 10/10. We also got the cream cheese wontons as an appetizer. We have been to this restaurant previously, and these have always been our favorite. They are very creamy and are always served fresh/hot. These were given a 10/10 as well. Paul (Rylee’s dad) got the spicy sesame chicken, with a pork egg roll (both not pictured). I tried both, but Rylee did not. The crispy texture, tender interior, and balanced sweet-savory tangy sauce, with a nutty flavor made the chicken stand out to me. On the other hand, the egg roll tasted pretty bland to me. Something about it didn’t taste quite right, and we believe it could’ve been a bad batch. When we have tried it previously, it had tasted better. The chicken was rated a 9.2/10, and the egg roll was given a 5/10.
Every visit feels personalized and both Rylee and Sella can attest to this. Staff remember names and orders, giving regulars a sense of community. The variety on the menu is endless; from catfish clay pots to crispy shrimp egg rolls that leave customers plump and happy, with the flavors still bursting in their mouths. The scenic street view diners get when sitting to eat in the restaurant is very lively. It is a great place to people watch, making it an ideal spot for enjoying lunch or dinner. Wether your craving yummy coffee or a hot bowl of hot pot prepared right at your table, Pho 79 really stands out as a hidden treasure.
