During the week of our Spring Break, I ventured out of the country to the beautiful Cancun, located on the east end of Mexico. We spent our time at an all-inclusive resort, The Moon Palace, and had a day at the Island, Isla Mujeres. This trip included lots of sun, swimming, tanning, hanging out with friends, and doing daily activities. However, one of the biggest parts for me was tasting all the food. Going to new countries is such a privilege, because of all the culture you can absorb in just a few hours. I am excited to share with you the many foods I ate on this trip, and hopefully inspire you to expand your pallet!

How could you say no to a yummy omelet, paired with a glazed cinnamon roll and some fresh fruit?

The first special shoutout I have to give in the huge buffet that is inside the resort. Now buffet style food may not seems necessarily luxurious, the resort was able to make the experience breathtaking. This service was open throughout the entire day serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Unfortunately, I was only able to make it to the breakfast portion, due to reservations at other locations. Overall my experience with the buffet style restaurant was wonderful!

For this breakfast I had two delicious waffles with Nutella and honey drizzled over them. I also added some bacon and scrambled eggs with ham to the side. (Lily Warnert)

If you are not particularly interested in waking up to walk to breakfast every morning, there are other options for you. They have lots of choices on their room service menu. This including things like bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit platers, yogurt cups, and various beverages. It was easy to mix and match these option so that you were getting enough food, but also refraining from getting that would later just go into the trash. The room service was speedy, and was an easy alternative on the day we had an excursion planned. This saved us lots of time in the morning, so that we were able to sleep in!

During my time at the resort we did a lot of lounging by the pool and beach.

We wanted the day to feel pretty free and flexible, so we decided to never make any reservations for lunch. Fortunately, there is a two buffets by the pool, and a wood-fire pizza shop also by the pool. Similarly to the breakfast buffet we attended, they did a fantastic job at presenting the food like it was a million bucks.

Unfortunately I don’t have any pizza pics, but that was such a great option too. I typically don’t think pineapple belongs on pizza, but when your in a hot tropical place, it is absolutely perfect for the occasion. They also had options such as cheese, sausage, pepperoni, and margarita.

Now for the section everyone is waiting for…dinner! Every night that we stayed on the resort, we had a dinner reservation. The first restaurant we attend on our first night was an Italian theme restaurant name Gondala. This is when we quickly realized that the portions given out in these restaurants were very small. This actually allowed up to be able to order more dishes, and expand our pallets! I ordered a delicious tomato soup, and chicken cutlets that were wrap in ham and bacon, and later dipped in breading. We also picked up caprese risotto, grilled salmon, and lasagna bolognese.

The next stop was the Palapa Asadero.

My pasta and chicken dish from Pier 8 was absolutely to die for, and had so many rich flavors! (Lily Warnert)

This was the palapa that sat beside the beach and pool area. A this restaurant I would say I was probably the least satisfied. I got a sirloin steak with a side of mashed potatoes. I adore steak so any steak I can get my hands on is wonderful. However, I honestly prefer Texas Roadhouses 8 oz sirloin more! Regardless, the steak did a fine job. We also decided to get flavorful guacamole with chips, mac and cheese with shrimp, and roasted chicken.

Our next restaurant was Pier 8. This was a seafood style restaurant that had open walls so you could feel the ocean breeze while enjoying dinner. I was originally wary of this restaurant because I am not the biggest seafood fan. Nevertheless, they had so much more to choose from than just sea food. I had an alfredo pasta dish with yummy bite sized chicken pieces. The chicken was also stuffed with cheese and rich filling. I also tasted a crab meatball soup. There was two crab meatballs, and then the broth was poured over it was they brought it to your table. We also decided to try another grilled salmon here and baja tacos.

Our next restaurant, which also happened to be my favorite, was Momo’s. This was a stir fry grill styled join. We weren’t able to get a spot at the Hibachi, but we did snag a table. One of the best part about my experience here was our waiter. He was a funny man who was absolutely fitting for the character. We started the night with four different sushi rolls to sample. We got the California roll, spider roll, crispy salmon roll, and spicy tuna roll. These were outstanding. This many have been one of my favorite foods I had tried throughout the trip. For my main dish, I received teriyaki chicken, with broccoli on the side. I also decided to get some spring rolls!

Our last restaurant was called Trattoria. This was our second Italian themed dinner of the trip. Fir this dinner we actually had to take a shuttle to the nearby resort. It was located on the resorts golf course and was stunning! I first decided to pick up an appetizer. The appetizer of my choosing was grilled provolone cheese. I am a huge cheese lover so this was something straight out of a fairytale dream for me. It was served with a side of pesto and the combo is hands down unmatched. For my main dish I chose the Rigatoni with ragu. This was a cheesy, oven-baked pasta that was to die for. We also tried some different mocktails at this location, and they had such wonderful blends! Everything was truly perfect, and you could tell a lot of time went into each dish here!

All of the dishes I had during my time here were amazing! It is such a privilege to be able to try all these new foods. I hope to continue my travels, and search for new and rich dishes!
