Meet SHS Senior Ben Kiewel! Ben is currently employed at the Target located in the Crossroads Mall in Saint Cloud. Ben works as a cashier for Target and also works as a “broista” for the Starbucks inside Target. Ben began working for Target and Starbucks back in July of 2017 and works around 15 hours a week. Read on to learn more about Ben Kiewel’s employment at Target.

 

Ben said that he likes working for Target and Starbucks because he likes his co-workers and also gets free coffees when he is working for Starbucks. He also said he likes his job because he gets a 15% discount on his Target purchases.

Ben has words of advice for all of his Starbucks customers:

Be patient with your baristas and stop ordering pink drinks as they are annoying to make because of their unoriginality.”

Ben said the only thing he dislikes about his job is when he has to work twice as many hours a week then what he requested.

Ben also told us about some of his most embarrassing moments while working for Target and Starbucks. Ben has spilled many coffees while working but the most embarrassing moment occurred when he spilled a coffee on his hand, and then threw the drink at a nearby sink while the customer watched the whole event unfold.

Meet SHS junior Jack Engle! Jack is currently employed Pine Edge Dairy in St. Stephen, Minnesota. Jack is a farmhand and started working there last June. Read on to learn more about Pine Edge Dairy and junior Jack Engle.

Jack said that he likes working for Pine Edge Dairy because he enjoys being outside, and he gets to work outside while at work. He also stated that he likes being able to pick his own hours. Not only does he like the ability to pick his hours but Jack also likes his boss:

Jack talked about what he dislikes about his job and that was the job is very stinky, and he also gets very dirty while working.

Jack also talked about a couple of his embarrassing moments while working at Pine Edge Dairy. One day while working he got slapped by a cow tail that was loaded with manure. Another day he told us about was the time that he got body slammed by a cow. His most embarrassing moment occurred when he improperly placed a chain and a couple of cows escaped from their pen.

Meet SHS Senior Luke Jones! Luke is currently employed by The Home Depot in Saint Cloud, Minnesota and also had a short stint at Emerald Companies during the winter of 2017-2018. Read on to learn more about Home Depot and senior Luke Jones.

Luke is currently a cashier/general laborer for Home Depot. Luke used to have a job with American Burger Bar, but they split ways after a couple of weeks. After he left American Burger Bar, Luke went on to work during the snow shoveling season at Emerald Companies Inc. and now Luke works at Home Depot. Luke has been with Home Depot since May of 2018.

Luke said that he likes working for Home Depot because he likes his co-workers. Luke also enjoys his job at Home Depot because he gets decent hours and works 3-4 times a week.

 

When asking Luke what he disliked most about his job he responded:

I really don’t dislike anything about the job. I love it there.”

Luke talked about one of his most embarrassing moments when he stole a barcode scanner from a neighboring register and was ringing everything up on the other register. Cole is currently a general laborer for CKR Products. Cole used to have a job with Coborns, but he decided to leave Coborns to work solely for his father’s company. Cole has been with CKR since he was 11 years old.

Cole said that he likes working for CKR because the job pays very well, and he gets to work for his father. Another reason Cole enjoys his job is that he doesn’t have to work during the winters when he has wrestling, and he gets to choose his hours that he wants to work. He also enjoys that he only has to work around 20 hours a week.

When asking Cole what he disliked most about his job he responded:

Getting rid of the scrap as it accumulates.”

Cole talked about one of his most embarrassing moments when he burned a plug for the sewer and water in his house while working. He told us that his garage was flooded and reeked of sewage for a couple of days after the incident.

Meet SHS Senior Drake Lalim who is currently employed by Howie’s Bar and Grill in St. Stephen, Minnesota. Read on to get an inside look at Drake’s employment at Howie’s Bar and Grill.

Drake is a cook but also helps with other jobs that need to be done around the kitchen. Drake has been employed by Howie’s since he was 14 years old, and this is Drake’s first job.

Drake said that his favorite part about working at Howie’s is being able to make his own variations of food and then being able to eat it. One of Drake’s favorite foods that he has created was a deep-fried pickle chip. Drake also likes that he gets free food while working and also likes most of his coworkers.

My favorite thing to do while working is making a bunch of exotic foods.”

There is only one thing that Drake said he disliked about working for Howie’s and that is having to clean chickens.

While asking Drake if he ever had any embarrassing moments while working at Howies he told us how he once microwaved a spoon with his food. After getting called out for his mistake he began to start hearing jokes at school because one of his coworkers told people at school.

Meet SHS senior Trevor Skinner! Trevor is currently employed at Howie’s Corner Bar and Grill in St. Stephen, Minnesota. Trevor works in the kitchen prepping and cooking food. He began working at Howie’s in May of 2016. This is the first job Trevor has ever had.

Trevor said the craziest thing that has ever happened while he was working was when he dropped an entire tray of food in the restaurant. There was food all over the place, and it took a long time for the staff to clean up, but he said there were no consequences and his boss was very understanding.

When I asked Trevor his favorite part of his job at Howie’s, he said, “It’s a super laid back and easy going job, and it’s not very stressful.” He also gets free food while he is working which is a great deal for him. Trevor said that he likes eating the food at Howie’s when he isn’t working, but it’s not as enjoyable to eat while he is working.

I also asked Trevor what he dislikes about his job and he said, “Sometimes I have to work 12-16 hours a week, and it can get really long after awhile; it’s also sometimes a lot of work prepping food.”

Meet SHS senior Alex Braun! Alex is currently employed at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course located in Sartell, MN. Alex began working there around 2 years ago and spends his time as a cart cleaner. This is the first job Alex has ever had.

Alex said the craziest thing that has ever happened while he was working at Blackberry was during a wedding. Someone from the wedding party stole a golf cart while he was working and he had to run after them to catch the cart. He said that he ended up getting the cart back and everything was okay!

When I asked Alex his favorite part of his job at Blackberry, he said: “It’s a super laid back job, and I love the people that work there.” Alex also loves that he can golf there for free and that he gets great discounts in both the Blackberry Pro Shop and in the “Grill 19” restaurant at Blackberry Ridge.

I also asked Alex what he dislikes about his job and he said: “Sometimes my job can be boring because I have to stay in the cart shed for a majority of the time.”

Meet SHS senior Allison Koopman! Ally is currently employed at Fudgin’ Delicious Ice Cream located in Crossroads Mall by Victoria’s Secret and JC Penny. Ally was hired at Fudgin’ Delicious March of 2018. She is currently helping with the Fudgin’ Delicious store set up, and they plan on opening this May. In the past, Ally worked for Community Ed soccer and pitch ball as a coach.

Ally said the craziest thing that has ever happened while working at Fudgin’ Delicious was when they were unpacking a bunch of items in the store and some glass broke. Other than that, nothing else too crazy has happened.

When I asked Ally about her favorite part of her job she said: “I love all of the people that work there and how ‘chill’ the job is… it’s very relaxed and not super strict.” Ally also loves that she can get free ice cream when she is working.

In the summertime, Ally plans on working 25-30 hours per week at Fudgin’ Delicious so be sure to stop by and get some great ice cream and home decor!

Meet SHS senior Kaleb Krush! Kaleb is currently employed at both Jimmy John’s in Sartell and Coldstone in Sartell. Kaleb began working at Jimmy John’s last summer 2017, around July 9th and at Coldstone approximately two months ago. In the past, Kaleb has been employed at Coborns for two years and at Pleasureland RV.

Kaleb said the craziest thing that ever happened while he was working at Jimmy John’s was when the police came and arrested his co-worker on the ground. Kaleb doesn’t know the details of what happened, but he hasn’t seen his co-worker since.

When I asked Kaleb his favorite part about his job at Jimmy John’s, he said: “I love my coworkers and have so much fun with them. They are all very interesting and come from many backgrounds, so we talk a lot.” Kaleb also loves that he gets free food and discounted food while on and off the job.

I also asked Kaleb what he dislikes about his jobs and he said: “I hate when people ask for soup at Jimmy John’s, because we have never sold soup and we never will sell soup.”

Meet SHS senior Chloe Yilek! Chloe is currently employed at Old Navy located in St. Cloud near Ulta Beauty and Chipotle. Chloe started working at Old Navy in November of 2017. This is the first “real job” she has ever had. She typically works in the fitting room.

When asking Chloe about the craziest thing that’s ever happened at Old Navy she replied: “One time three girls came into the store and one of the girls was distracting a worker while the other two girls were stealing clothes… they ended up taking a bunch of clothes and running out the front door.” She also said she doesn’t like her job sometimes because the customers can be mean and crabby towards her.

Chloe loves her job because of the great discount (50% off everything) which makes the cute clothes very affordable. She also loves all of the people she works with because they are all nice and easy to talk to. Chloe typically works twice a week for around four hours, and she loves the time she spends working.

I love working at Old Navy because the clothes are cute and affordable.”

“I started working there last April.”

Q: Where have you worked in the past?

“Pretzel Maker”

Q: What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened?

“Someone tried stealing something.”

Q: What do you like about your job?

“My co-workers are really cool and fun to work with.”

Q: What do you dislike about your job?

“I don’t like the hours because I always have to work on the weekends.”

Q: Do you get discounts/benefits?

“I get 40% off everything in the store.”

Q: How often do you work?

“I typically only work on the weekends because of sports.”

Q: Do you like shopping at Maurices?

“No, it’s mostly mom clothes.”

Cole works at FDC (Fulfillment Distribution Center) in Saint Cloud. FDC is located near the MAC and Veterans Golf Course.

Q&A with Cole:

Q: When did you start working at FDC?

“March of 2017”

Q: Where have you worked in the past?

“I haven’t had any past jobs.”

Q: What do you do at FDC?

“I package anything and everything.”

Q: What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened?

“One time someone fainted in the break room, also a bunch of gluers operating the glue machine (glue on labels onto boxes) spilled a bunch of glue all over.”

Q: What do you like about your job?

“I have a lot of flexibility with my hours.”

Q: What do you dislike about your job?

“It’s a dirty warehouse, it’s grimy.”

Q: Do you get discounts/benefits?

“I can get free movie tickets, but it’s deducted out of my paychecks.”

Q: How often do you work?

“Monday through Wednesday all around the year.”
