Q: Favorite part of freshman year so far?

A: Probably just being in high school and getting to be in the student section.

Q: How was the switch from the middle school to the high school?

A: It was a pretty easy switch. I think the hardest part was how much homework you get in high school vs. middle school.

Q: What activities are you involved in?

A: I am currently on the Sartell Dance Team, and I really enjoy it. I like how it’s a school sport now because in middle school it was just studio dancing.

Q: Opinion on Blake and Riley Hartwig?

Featured Freshman of the week: Travis Nelson

Travis+Nelson+is+a+freshman+at+SHS+who+enjoys+the+outdoors+and+who+respects+his+sister.++

Travis Nelson

Travis Nelson is a freshman at SHS who enjoys the outdoors and who respects his sister.

Travis Nelson is a freshman at Sartell High School. He enjoys many things outdoors and just having a fun time. If you keep reading you will find out much more about this week’s featured freshman.

Q: How tall are you?

A: 5’ 1”

Q: Do you have any hobbies or activities you are involved in?

Travis Nelson
Travis and his lacrosse team

A: I play lacrosse, hunt, and fish. Lacrosse is really fun and this year will be my 4th year playing it. I deer and turkey hunt. During deer season I bow hunt and rifle hunt. This is my first year bowhunting for deer. I like deer hunting more than turkey hunting, but they are both really fun. The thing I like about deer hunting is that you always see something. It may not be the big buck that you are hunting for but it’s something. The main reason why I like turkey hunting is because I am with my dad. I love fishing too. I ice fish and boat fish. I would take ice fishing over boat fishing any day. I have caught my biggest walleye ice fishing. It is way more relaxing than boat fishing.

Q: Opinion on… Megan Nelson?

A: Megan is an incredible person. She is very caring and always there for others. She will put a smile on your face everyday. If you ever need help she is right there to help you. She welcomes others with open arms. She is very funny but also serious when she needs to be. She is extremely smart and helps me with homework whenever I need it. All around she is a great person.

Travis Nelson
Andrew Tavale

Q: Who is your best friend?

A: Andrew Tavale

Q:Do you have any big dreams for after high school?

A: I don’t know.

Q: Favorite song or artist?

A: Khalid. I have just always listened to him.

Q: How was the switch from middle school to high school?

A: The switch from middle school to high school was a huge switch. You go from being the oldest students in the school to the youngest. You have a lot more homework than you did in middle school. I like how we are able to choose most of our classes unlike middle school. You can pick classes that you are actually interested in instead of getting put in classes that you dislike.

Q: Do you have any advice for other high school students?

A: Don’t procrastinate. I’ve learned that one the hard way.

Featured Freshman of the week: Mallory Appel

Mallory+Appel+is+a+freshman+at+Sartell+High+School+for+the+2019-2020+school+year

Mallory Appel

Mallory Appel is a freshman at Sartell High School for the 2019-2020 school year

Mallory Appel is a freshman at Sartell High School. She is the 2019-2020 freshman homecoming royalty. She was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota and moved to Minnesota when she was three.  Continue to read to find out more about Mallory!

Q: How does it feel to be freshman royalty?

A: Very different. I didn’t expect to get it.

Q:How was the switch from middle school to high school?

A: The switch from middle school to high school has been very different. In high school, you have much more independence and teachers have higher expectations, which I think is a good thing. Although so far I think high school is going to be a very fun experience, and I am excited to see what happens in the next four years!

Q: How is high school different from middle school?

A: So far in high school, I like that the students have more choice and independence and you are able to choose your own path you want to go instead of getting put into classes you may not be interested like how middle school was. I also love the environment the school has and how inviting everyone is, although at football games it’s a different story haha. Let’s just say our grade needs to get better at cheering!

Q:What activities are you involved in?

Mallory Appel
Mallory playing volleyball

A: I’m in volleyball. I started playing volleyball in fourth grade and ever since then, I have loved the sport. I enjoy the speed of the game and how I have grown so close to my teammates that they are like sisters to me. Volleyball has been a huge part of my life, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. If I’m ever having a bad day, I know I can look forward to practice because I know my team will be there for me and I can forget about everything else happening and just play.

Q:Opinion on… your sisters?

A: We get along very well. I like them. In my family, I have a little sister who is 9 years old and is in fourth grade. I also have two older step sisters, one is 20 years old and is going to St. Cloud Technical College for nursing and the other is 18 years old and recently graduated high school from Sauk Rapids.

Q:Who is your best friend?

A: Makenna Hauck.

Mallory Appel
Mallory and Makenna at the Khalid concert

Q:Do you have any big dreams for after high school?

A: To travel a lot.

Q: Favorite song or artist?

A: Khalid. I think Khalid’s music is very catchy and the lyrics in his music is very down to earth and relatable. Over the summer I went to one of his concerts in the cities with my friend Makenna, and it was a very good concert.

Q: Do you have any hobbies outside of sports and school?

A: I like to be outside and hang out with my friends.

Q: Do you have any advice for other high school students?

A: Just try hard.
