Abdi Sharif's family has some answers now that they've found their son's body.

Abdullahi “Abdi” Sharif, a 18 year old boy who attends Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa has been missing since leaving his Target shift on January 17th.  His body was found on May 4th.

He was about to go home and was kidnapped by somebody and went missing and there was no trace of where he had gone. But then they had pinged his phone and found a little clue to help find him and return him to his family. They went to the location where his phone was pinged and there was nothing there and nobody in sight. Kayakers were traveling down the river when they noticed the dead body near Prospect Park. The lead police officer on the task force stated: “That was pretty close to the spot where Abdi’s phone had last pinged.”

The police stated that there was a “lack of video evidence” but there was still some video of him before he went missing. The police also said that what he was doing was “very out of character for him” saying that whatever he was doing was not something that he normally does. Google Maps indicated it’s about a 80 minute walk from Merle Hay Mall where he was last seen to where his body was found. The police stated that where the body was found they searched many times before but since the water was frozen over and the conditions were not favorable and that nobody could see him from on the water or from the banks. The police also stated, “We were hoping that the longer it went on, the chances were greater that we would find him alive somewhere and there would be some sort of explanation.”

The family of Abdi set up a GoFundMe page to help support his family.

Outer Banks is a very fun exciting show on Netflix that will fill you up with wanting more.

It is based out of Outer Banks, North Carolina, and it is about these teenagers who go on a real life treasure hunt and look for gold that washed up on a ship several thousands of years ago. The main character John Buckerutledge is an only child who lives on the bad side of town where he is constantly working and doesn’t have very much money. His father was also in search of the gold from the royal merchant but was never found at sea a couple months before they were introduced to the cast and their lives.

Outer Banks is a great action-packed show with a lot of plot twists and that Sarah Cameron is very pretty.”

— Senior, Sam Fernholz

John B’s best friend JJ calls him. His life is terrible and that’s the best outcome of what his life is like, his father is abusive after his mother left them. His life is very hard, and he kind of has an anger problem. He tends to punch things or people quite a bit.

Their other best friend, who is a guy, is Pope. His dad is the main grocery store delivery person and very loved and well known on the island. Pope is very smart. He is up for a scholarship with only three other kids in America to go to any college they please, for free.

Lastly the final person in the group Kiara is a rich girl but doesn’t like the way that they live life so she is best friends with the boys and she basically is one of the guys. They are called the Pogues because they live on the poor side of the island and the Kooks are the rich and always blame the Pogues for the wrongdoing on the island. John B. likes one of the Kooks. Her name is Sarah Cameron, daughter of the famous Wade Cameron who is a well known realtor on the island. They start looking for the long lost treasure and come up with some very big problems from other people finding it. It is a very exciting thrilling TV series, and I would highly recommend watching it.

I would highly recommend [this show] because it is my favorite TV series on Netflix. I watched it all in one day!”

Some sports are eyeing a return in the near future

When+will+we+be+able+to+go+to+sporting+events+again%3F+

Courtney Kosloski

When will we be able to go to sporting events again?

The coronavirus pandemic is taking the world by storm taking out sports, group gatherings and keeps many people from seeing their relatives.

One of the biggest impacts in the United States is the postponement of sports until further notice. Many people are talking about having the sports return without fans, but some say that would defeat the purpose of playing the game because feeding off the crowd gives players energy and momentum.

Dr. Nate Favini, the lead doctor at Forward Health Care Services, says that he doesn’t believe that the sports will return anytime this year. He believes that it won’t be back up and running with fans and everything until later in 2021. Many other doctors have the same input on what they believe will happen with sports for the remainder of the year.

Some say that it is way too risky and could possibly start another outbreak and cancel it for longer. Others say that if they have tests every couple days just to make sure everyone is healthy, and it’s okay to play then why do it with no fans.

Nascar is going to be the first to start back up. They are eyeing a start nearing as close as two weeks away. Then they are thinking Major League Baseball will start June 1st and the regular season will start early July. NFL is still staying on track for the start of the year for early September and having training camps still late July early August. Many sports are eyeing a return in the near future but is it the the right thing to do?

The Last Dance documentary recap

Basketball+finals+are+on+their+way.

Cole Zunker

Basketball finals are on their way.

ESPN and Netflix teamed up with Michael Jordan and the rest of the 1997 Bulls to make a new ESPN documentary called The Last Dance.

The background of the show is that last year all the star players were together for the Chicago Bulls in 1997-1998.  They had a film crew follow them around and film everything that they were doing every day during the season. The documentary was made to capture the complications that went on during that season and to show that it wasn’t all perfect sailing.

In the first two episodes of the documentary, it showed Michael Jordan, the star player for the Chicago Bulls, as a kid and how his life was before he was a world-famous basketball star. He lived in North Carolina and didn’t even make the varsity basketball roster his sophomore year.  He came home crying to his mom and was saying he would never play basketball again. But his mother told him to keep going and try harder.  Then he went from not making the basketball team his sophomore year to having major college basketball teams see him play basketball.

It went on to show him in college winning the NCAA tournament with the North Carolina Tar Heels. After that, he played two more years in college until finally he went pro and was drafted number three overall to the Chicago Bulls. He went on to win rookie of the year and lead them to their first playoff appearance in a decade.

The second episode is all about Scottie Pipen, the second best player on the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan’s right-hand man. It showed his life and his basketball career. He went to Central Arkansas University and played four years there. He was a very talented basketball player there but wasn’t the best until his junior year. He grew seven inches his sophomore year to junior year, and he went on to be a highly rated prospect in the NBA draft. He was drafted 5th overall to the Chicago Bulls and the rest is history.

In this second episode, it really shined on the fact that Scottie was very underpaid for the role he played in that organization. He was the second best player on the Bulls and was one of the best players in the NBA but was paid the 6th most money on the Bulls and 122nd most money in the entire NBA. He signed a contract for 7 years and 17 million dollars his 2nd season, knowing that he would have made way more in the future.

He said, “I couldn’t risk getting injured and having no money.”

Michael and Scottie were the best duo in the NBA for several years and won multiple championships.  The next episode this Sunday talks about the 3rd player on their team that doesn’t get the most credit, Denis Rodman.

If you haven’t seen the first two episodes I would advise you to check it out.

Don’t cancel your sports provider just yet

NBA+Finals

Basketball players holding NBA finals trophy

Many people in the world buy what is called the “Sports Package” from your select television provider.  It allows you to get all the sports programs you could have on your television for a fee of however much money it is a month.

But since there are no sports on due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the sports programs are providing something worth watching for viewers so they don’t quit the sports program.  Quitting might make sense because you would be paying money for nothing on those channels.

BUT the sports program has decided to rerun some of the best sports games in the past decade showing amazing games you wouldn’t see just played on regular cable. They have been playing Super Bowls since four years ago and basketball games from 2010 to help satisfy the viewers and hope that they stick by their side and keep paying for the sports program.

It is a very neat and smart idea for the programs to use to help them keep some of the viewers and still have money coming in for their business. It’s very hard for a program that is based completely around sports to be thriving right now.  It would be hard also to keep bringing in the necessary amount of money to help keep employees on staff and not entirely plummeting to the ground.

Drew Brees says YES to two more years in football (on TV)

Football+is+a+favorite+sport+for+many.++

Maddux Hagy

Football is a favorite sport for many.

Drew Brees, the legendary quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, decided to continue and play two more years in the NFL.

He was considering retirement since he is in his 40’s and already holds some of the NFL’s most prestigious awards like the Most Passing Yards in NFL history and the most touchdown passes in NFL history.

Drew Brees will always have a starting quarterback position in the NFL until the day he retires. But he’s not quite ready for that just yet. He just signed a contract with NBC Sports that he will announce and broadcast NFL games. He got a contract for NBC Sports that states that they will negotiate a contract and make sure that he is locked up only commentating NBC Sports games and only football games.

This is big news for football fans around the nation because it will make games more interesting by having Drew Brees commentating while you are watching football games on Sunday. This is also very exciting to Drew Brees that even if he doesn’t broadcast or commentate, he has a very large impact on the football community. It is great for him because he is creating a long impact on the sports world after his playing days are over.

I’m a very big fan of football and sports, so to have him commentating on games on Sunday is going to be very cool to listen to.

Tiger at Bronx Zoo has COVID-19

COVID-19 is sweeping the world in a crazy fashion, many believed it to be a disease that only affects humans until they found out this most recent discovery. At the Bronx Zoo in New York City, they found that their 4 year old Malayan Tiger named Nadia tested positive for the coronavirus.

The tiger was showing signs of being sick because of a dry cough and was having a loss of appetite. The doctors took samples of Nadia’s blood and saliva to test for what was going on. They took her samples to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory. The tests came back for Nadia, and she tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr. Jane Roody said in an interview, “There doesn’t appear to be, at this time, any evidence that suggests that the animals can spread the virus to people or that they can be a source of the infection in the United States.”

The worker on-site that cares for the big cats tested positive as well for the coronavirus; the worker came into work at the zoo and was a carrier of the coronavirus but isn’t showing any symptoms of being sick and gave it to the Tiger Nadia while she was near her.

Several more big cats at the Bronx Zoo have been feeling ill as well having the same symptoms as Nadia. They will not test those cats because they must knock the cats out in order to get all the samples they need. The cats are all in isolation in their habitats and will stay there for as long as they need to in order to assure the safety of the other cats and animals at the zoo.

In this case Nadia was showing symptoms on March 27 and is doing very well and is expected to make a full recovery.  The zoo worker is also feeling a lot better and is expected to make a full recovery.

Need some good news? Tune into John Krasinski’s YouTube channel

The+Office%27s+Jim+is+now+on+YouTube+spreading+love+and+kindness.+

Emma Zenzen

The Office's Jim is now on YouTube spreading love and kindness.

One of the main stars of the hit show The Office, John Krasinski also known as Jim, has started a YouTube channel called Some Good News.

He is trying to bring some light to people who are stuck at home worrying about what’s going to happen next. He brings them good news going on in the world. He started his latest episode showing clips of people in Spain surrounding the hospitals and clapping and honking, showing their support for all the hard work and dedication during these terrible times.

He then went on to interview Steve Carell and ask him what’s going on in his upcoming movie and asking him how life is following this outbreak. He talks about their favorite memories from their time together acting during The Office, and they shared many laughs and smiles which is good for viewers to see during this time in the world.

After his meeting with Steve Carell, he goes on to share a story about a girl who just finished her last round of chemotherapy and on her way home, people were lined up in the streets waiting to cheer her on and show her that she was never alone in this battle with cancer. After giving the background story, John interviews her and tells her that she is an inspiration to everyone in the world and that she is John Krasinski’s newest hero.

This is a very positive and very effective channel and a very relaxing show to watch to just help bring people into a happier mood and get their mind off what’s actually going on in the world.

Sabre wrestling falls short to St. Cloud Tech in Sections

The+Sabre+wrestling+team+has+worked+hard+all+season.+

Maiah Cameron

The Sabre wrestling team has worked hard all season.

The Sartell Sabres Wrestling Team looked to move forward with their season Friday, Feb. 14th as they battled against the St. Cloud Tech Tigers.

The Sartell Sabres earned the 5th seed in sections due to their section and regular season record. They traveled to St. Cloud Tech, the 4th team in the section, as they wrestled to see who is going home and who got another chance to travel to the Minnesota state wrestling meet.

The Sabres came into the meet with a 11-7 regular season record. In their meeting this season, Sartell trumped the Tigers 39-36. The Sabres were led by senior Sam Fernholz.  He is 35-5 this season and has a total has 120 wins throughout his high school career.

The Sabres are a very young team. They have many juniors and sophomores wrestling for their varsity team. There is a lot to look forward to for the Sartell Sabres in the near future. The Sabres won a lot of close meets this season and also lost a lot of close meets. They were a very well balanced team but are also missing some pieces.

Their season was very fun and filled with lots of growth and success just fell short of the ultimate goal of a State Tournament Bid. The Sabres lost to St Cloud Tech.  Individual sections were Saturday, February 22nd.

Sabres pick up two wins to end regular season

Sabres+pick+up+two+wins+to+end+regular+season

The Sartell Sabres battled the St. Cloud Tech Tigers on Monday, February 24 at 7 pm. The Sabres came into the game with a record of 14-9 sitting at 4th in the section while the Tech Tigers came in with a 3-20 record sitting at 8th in the section.  The game was held at Sartell High School.

The Sabres played a great offensive game led by great ball movement and great teamwork; the Sabres had four players in double-figure points.  The Sabres were led in scoring by Gus Gunderson with 22 points, Mason Lund with 16 points, Matt Sieben with 12 points, and Jacob Bejelland with 12 points.

Sartell played a very two-sided game Friday night against the Rocori Spartans on February 28th. The Sabres had a different feel for the game because it was also senior night. The Sabres congratulated the seniors for all of their hard work and leadership through their high school basketball careers.

As far as the game went, the team came out flat and found themselves down 1-11 to start the game. After that, they kind of found their rhythm but that didn’t stop the Spartans from hitting big shots. The Sabres were down by 13 at the half.  They found themselves down by 17 at one point in the second half, and then they chipped back and kept fighting and finally came out on top of a gritty Rocori Spartans basketball team. The Sabres were lead by Gus Gunderson who scored 22 points. The final score was 59-52, Sartell won.

The Sabres will host the Sauk Rapids Storm Tuesday for a chance to keep fighting or a chance to be sent home. The game starts at 8 pm at Sartell High School.
