Minnesota prepares for the upcoming snow storm that may cause multiple issues

State authorities and weather forecasters inform civilians about cautions they should be taken as a big snowstorm begins pushing into Minnesota.

This is indeed going to be a historic storm. It’s going to be a tough storm, especially for those in open country.

Fire response teams could be delayed by the snow, said Jim Smith, the state fire marshal. He warned people not to use propane heaters, or charcoal grills, or turning on the gas stove as a heat source to prevent fires.

St. Paul public schools said the district will go virtual Wednesday and Thursday and have a complete snow day on Friday. Minneapolis schools will be closed with e-learning days for the remainder of the week. St.Cloud area schools will have e-learning days Wednesday and Thursday with Friday’s schedule determined later this week depending on the future forecast.

Minnesota Department of Transportation officials are concerned about the snow that’s packed on the roads that has recently melted and refrozen, meaning that the new snow will not be able to stick to the roads.

A lot of the snow that’s going to show up in the next couple of days isn’t going to be tied down. It’s going to be very free to move around with gusts up to 40 miles an hour. So we’re really expected to see a lot of drifting going on.
