In 2015, MPR did a piece on a Minnesotan named Val Johnson who claimed he saw aliens.

It has been about 43 years since one of Minnesota’s most disturbing UFO sightings was made by a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s office. Since then there have been hundreds of UFO sightings that have been made in the land of 10,000 lakes.

The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) ranks Minnesota 23rd in the nation for most UFO sightings with about 100 a year. Although many of these sightings can be explained with satellites, weather phenomenon’s, and science, many of them can not.

One of the most famous sightings occurred on August 27th, 1979, deputy Val Johnson was patrolling outside the town of Stephen when he saw a suspicious bright light hovering above the road. Johnson tried to shrug it off and continue his patrol but the light followed him for about a mile and a half when all of a sudden his windshield was shattered and his antenna was bent 90 degrees. Johnson blacked out and woke up 39 minutes later to burns around his eyes and his clock set 14 minutes behind.

Bill McNeff, the chief investigator for the Minnesota chapter of the Mutual UFO Network, told Fox 9 that he believes that these strange stories from 20 to 30 years ago can be explained about 90 percent of the time, but that other 10 percent still stands as unexplained UFO sightings. Although, for the past 20 years of UFO sightings, only 80 percent can be explained. This means that 20 percent of UFO sightings cannot be explained.
