Emoni Bates getting arrested for driving with an unregistered weapon

On September 18 at 10:43 p.m, Emoni Bates was arrested for a gun charge. He borrowed a friend’s car, and the car was unregistered. Upon investigation, a gun was found in the car. The Washtenaw County Sheriff took him in, and Bates is currently in custody there. He is being charged with two firearm felonies.

Emoni Bates is an 18-year-old who plays basketball at Eastern Michigan. He was a former number one overall recruit in the class of 2022 but then he reclassed last season to the class of 2021 to play at Memphis State with his friend Jalen Duren. Bates had an iffy year there, averaging 9.7 points and 1.3 assists per game last season for the Tigers, and recently transferred to Eastern Michigan to be closer to home and a fresh start.

Emoni got released the day after on September 19th. He is currently suspended by Eastern Michigan but no action has been taken by the NCAA. Emoni Bates was a projected pick in the 2023 NBA draft before the incident.

I believe that he still has a shot at the NBA if he gets another shot at college.
