Slang of SHS: part 6

This is a continuation of a column that Jason Koopman provided last school year. I took it upon myself to continue it on and help Sartell understand what everyone is saying.

At a normal day at Sartell High School, there are often numerous slang terms used. A day at Sartell High School could be much like one spent in a foreign country. Students knowingly, and unknowingly throw out terms on a daily basis.

Keeping up with the slang is a key to staying up-to-date here at SHS. It is not only a daunting task for students, but it is even harder for the teaching staff. The objective of this article is to keep Sabre Nation knowledgeable.

For my first week of the continuation of the SHS slang, I chose two common words that everyone needs to know here at the school: Gino and Lettuce.

The dictionary.com definition of Gino is a male given name.

The dictionary.com definition of lettuce is simple; it’s what we eat,  “a cultivated plant.”

SHS DEFINITION:

Gino, Noun (jee-noh)

  1. : (n)- a goal often referred to in the sports of Hockey and Lacrosse

Example:

  • Student 1: Hey you gonna’ score a gino tonight?
  • Student 2: Yes for sure. I am a god, and I snipe ginos.

It is just a synonym for saying you scored a goal.

Lettuce, Noun (let-is)

  1. :(n)- referring to nice hair, or nice flow

Example:

  • Zach Omann has great lettuce.
  • Student 1: Did you hear Jordan Roller cut the lettuce?
  • Student 2: Yes, I am unhappy with his decision. He had nice flow.
