St. Andrew’s Music Hall in Detroit, Michigan is not the best, but still a great place to hear live music.

Venue: St. Andrew’s Music Hall in Detroit

Saint Andrew’s is a venue in Detroit, Michigan that has housed some of the biggest names in music history. Some of those include Bob Dylan, Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. The venue has also hosted more contemporary artists like Adele and Eminem. It was originally used as a meeting place for the Saint Andrew’s Scottish Society of Detroit, but membership fell off after WWII.

The venue is very similar in nature to Fine Line in terms of layout. There is a lower general admission floor and an upper balcony that leads into a private lounge for 21+ patrons. The whole venue can host upward of 1,000 people in a show. There are emergency exits on the side of the building and in the back behind the stage as well.

The one flaw it did have was a one-time ordeal in which there was water dripping from the upper balcony onto the general admission floor. However, I was standing right next to the drip, and it really didn’t impact the experience for me or for the friend I went with.

The merch table was in the basement down the stairs on the immediate right of the entrance. From there you got into The Basement, which is another, much smaller, venue on the bottom floor of the building. The merch table was set on the side of the room opposite the entrance. There is also a coat check in the lower level.
Overall, I loved this venue. Similar to Fine Line, it is a great starter venue, but it can also appeal to more seasoned concertgoers with its authentic charm and generally positive vibe.
