On March 16, 2022, Sartell High School students and teachers helped save around 210 lives through the Red Cross blood drive.

The Red Cross has stated that due to COVID the U.S. has reached the worst blood shortage in over a decade. The need for blood for plasma, platelets, and red blood cells for different transfusions is vital since the Red Cross supplies 40%.

On Wednesday, March 16th, 70 eligible Sabre volunteers gathered in the high school’s aux gym from 8:00 am-3:00 pm to donate blood. The Red Cross collected a total of 70 pints of blood.

According to Givingblood.org, a 1-pint donation can help roughly 3 people. Though the 70 donations are only a small percentage of the high school population, there were many more who wanted to donate but couldn’t due to various reasons.
