Conservation officer killed in crash near Park Rapids

DNR officer Sarah Grell died in a car accident on Monday, May 24th.

On Monday morning May 24, 2021, There was a conservation officer killed in a crash about 20 miles north of Park Rapids.

The crash happened around 8:30 in the morning, In Lawrence township at county roads 57 and 336.  39 year old Grell was driving a pickup truck on county road 336, were she was hit broadside by a semi that was driving on county road 336. Grell was killed during the crash but the semi driver 42 year old Milo J. Polovina only suffered minor injuries. 

“The sense of loss we feel right now is indescribable,” DNR commissioner Sarah Strommen said on Monday night. Grell leaves behind an incredible legacy of service to Minnesota’s people and natural resources. Grell was the 23rd DNR officer to have died in the line of duty since 1887.

Governor Tim Walz said that he wants everyone to think of Grell when you are enjoying Minnesota’s public lands and water and also to thank DNR offices when you see them. Flags will be flown at half staff at federal buildings in the state but the date has not been determined yet.
