Princess Latifa of Dubai held hostage

February 25, 2021

The daughter of Dubai’s ruler, Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, is being held hostage by her father, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for trying to escape her home country of Dubai in 2018.

Princess Latifa’s father is one of the wealthiest people in the world. Being the ruler of Dubai and the Vice President of The United Arab Emirates (UAE), he has much power in controlling the citizens of these countries. Princess Latifa’s attempted escape dates all the way back to July of 2000 when her sister, Princess Shamsa, escaped Dubai. Their father launched a mass search for Princess Shamsa but did not inform the police, and ultimately she was found by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s men. Two years later, Princess Latifa attempted her first escape at the age of 16, but was caught at the border of UAE and Oman and brought back to Dubai and jailed for about three years. Due to this, she was not able to have a passport, driver’s license, or leave Dubai per her father. Princess Latifa then contacted Herve Jaubert, who successfully escaped Dubai in the past, and together they planned her escape in great detail. Her friend, Tiina Jauhiainen, acted as an aide in the planned escape and helped Princess

Latifa during her escape. After years of planning the perfect escape route, Princess Latifa made a video that she calls “just in case” that she sent to her friends with instructions to them to publically post it if her escape fails. On February 24th, 2018, Tiina Jauhiainen and Princess Latifa set off on their escape journey. They made it a week until Indian special forces captured the Princess and brought her back to Dubai. Since then, Princess Latifa has been held hostage by her father and trying everything she can to get out.
