Underdeveloped countries need financial support.

Right now in Yemen, there are 24 million people in need of assistance. Since the beginning of the Civil War in 2014, healthcare has collapsed, famine spreads throughout the country, there are outbreaks of malnutrition, and people can no longer afford to survive. There are many countries around the world in similar situations especially with the brunt of the Coronavirus pandemic this past year. Places like Yemen need aid.

Deciding to financially support a cause that is close to one’s heart is one of the best things we can do to help those in need.

Here are some of the best and most legitimate charities to donate to:

Every year, The Trevor Project provides over 100,000 calls, texts, and chats to children and teens who are struggling with coming out or mental health issues. Donations will help provide crisis support free of charge, train volunteers, and to enable work with policymakers who can pass legislation to protect young LGBTQ+ members.

3. The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI)

The Equal Justice Initiative fights against the instituted racism of the criminal justice system and black poverty. The national issue of mass incarceration because of the war on drugs disproportionately affects people of color. Because of over-policed black neighborhoods, black men are arrested more often, and African American men receive longer sentences than similarly situated white American men. These injustices make it clear that the criminal justice system desperately needs reform. The Equal Justice Initiative can help end mass incarceration, fight against racial and economic injustice, and protect basic human rights. They can do these things through our donations by sharing history, litigation, advocacy, and education to more Americans.

4. Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)

The Environmental Defense Fund, or the EDF, has a goal of protecting and defending the earth and its system in which all life depends. Their objective applies to several things regarding the earth; the climate, pollution, oceans, and ecosystems. With extensive studying and experimenting, donations go into finding practical solutions to the collective problem we all face regarding the state of our planet.

5. Global Fund for Women

The Global Fund for Women fights to protect the safety and basic human rights of women, girls, and gender non-conforming people.  This charity financially supports people all around the world, combating injustice for women who need help, whether this is child marriage, abortion laws, or gender-based violence. They support the feminist movement and those behind it who fight for equality and equity. Donations go towards expansive gender justice movements in order to make a change for future generations.

6. Hispanic Federation

The Hispanic Federation works to provide aid for the vulnerable, specifically Hispanics, and the hardships that they face. This charity has been working towards helping people get quality education, COVID relief, and recovery, fighting poverty and hunger, and mobilizing voters so that everyone can have a voice. The Hispanic Federation seeks to empower and advance the Hispanic community through health, immigration, economic empowerment, and education. Donating can help fund the advancement of those areas for Hispanic people.

7. Cancer Research Institut

Almost ten million people die from cancer each year. The Cancer Research Institute does extensive studying to try to lessen the number of people who die from this disease. This charity has invested 445 million into research and believes that immunotherapy can possibly treat all types of cancer. The United States needed rehabilitation for those who lost jobs and faced hunger in 2020, along with those who have faced it in the past. Researchers say that the child mortality rate could rise after years of decline. Donations can go towards families who have been pushed to the brink and need the basic necessities in order to survive.

9. National Alliance to End Homelessness

The National Alliance to End Homelessness has a goal of preventing and ending homelessness in the U.S. Homelessness can have a serious physical, mental, and emotional toll on anyone who experiences it. In 2019, 567,715 people were homeless. This number has only risen with these uncertain times. In order to achieve stability, people need housing, better crisis management, increasing income and employment, and assistance for those who are most vulnerable. This charity voices these concerns spreads awareness, and researches the issue. Donating can help those who face this stabilize.

10. The Asia Foundation

The Asia Foundation focuses on bettering lives across developing Asia and addressing urgent issues that Asian countries face. This can be done through strengthening the government, expanding opportunity, empowering the vulnerable, increasing environmental resilience, and supporting international relationships. Donations go towards the advancement of women’s rights and representation, providing education access for children, and prosperity.

There are many causes worth donating to that pertain to issues all over the world. It is our responsibility to help those who are in need of it. When we all come together to fix problems, inspiring change can be made in order to make us kinder people and create a world that we can be proud of.

Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.”
