Wanda Vision: the new TV era for Marvel Studios

Wanda and Vision are trapped in a seemingly typical 50s sitcom.

Disney+ has released another hit television show! On January 15, 2021, Disney+ announced the release of the odd, high-concept show Wanda Vision. It embodies the classic family sitcoms “The Brady Bunch” and “Bewitched” and takes lesser-known Avengers, Wanda and Vision, and gives them a whole new existence, such as a 1950s sitcom.

Oh this is going to be a gas!”

Marvel Studios is starting over by producing its own extensive list of reliable members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wanda Vision is a complex and odd show that is hard to understand at first but makes more sense as the episodes progress. The show follows Wanda and Vision as they no longer live in the world that the Avengers tried so hard to save. Instead, they are trapped in a 1950s original family sitcom…or are they really trapped?

They seem to be living in the perfect community. The suburban, generic neighborhood of Westview. Weird, but loveable neighbors. A wife with a loving husband who do nothing but laugh and chatter. Who wouldn’t want that?

However, something darker lies underneath the surface.

At first glance, it seems like any normal television sitcom. They meet their new neighbors, Vision has his boss and his wife over for dinner, Wanda attends daily meetings, general happy things that happy couples do in sitcoms.

“But there is still something off in the whole equation, with flickering moments of strangeness mixed in. Aspect ratios shift, pregnancies appear out of the blue, people crawl out of sewers, and fast aging kids–Wanda Vision crosses a line of weird that no Marvel production has ever crossed before.

But that’s what makes the show so intriguing.

There is no telling which direction the show is going in since it seems to be going backward. However, there are theories out there of what might happen as the show continues on.

I had the opportunity to talk to one of my good friends, Lauren Hansen, who is a fan of the show, and ask her what her theories are about how Wanda Vision will progress.

Lauren explains her theories about WandaVision and why she enjoys it. (Abigail Peichel)

Abby: What are your theories for how the show will progress?

Lauren: “My theory is, from watching trailers and stuff, that Vision will somehow escape Wanda’s reality and realize that it wasn’t real and realize who he is and from there they will get Wanda out of her reality. I’m not sure how, but my theory is that Vision will escape and will provide leeway into different ways.

Abby: Okay, so what are your theories for how and why they ended up in this situation?

Lauren: “Wanda has lost everything, so then a theory would be because of that her power got out of control due to her immense grief because she lost her parents, she lost her brother, she lost Vision, and she went through all the trauma of Endgame and being blipped and who knows what that does do a person. I know there are theories out there that the villain nightmare could have a hand in this because he can make you see your ideal reality too, you know, feed off of your fears so that he could gain more power, which could lead to Dr. Strange because that is more of a villain for Dr. Strange.”

Overall, it is hard to determine what will happen in Wanda Vision because it is such a wildcard tv show, but that is what is so appealing about it. If you are ever looking for a unique show and interested in knowing more about the lesser-known Marvel characters, then I highly suggest Wanda Vision on Disney+. Feel free to view the trailer below!
