The Avengers

The story of the Avengers is not the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – or MCU – but it is a very big moment in its history. The Avengers, released in 2012, is the first movie where all of the heroes introduced in the previous movies come together to fight a common foe. These heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Thor, team up to battle Loki, Thor’s evil brother, to gain control of the Tesseract, a small, glowing cube with immense power.

The Avengers holds an incredible amount of CGI, or computer-generated imagery. Not only does the movie feature many small creatures for the heroes to battle, but it also has large, cybernetic alien creatures called the Chitauri. These creatures were big enough to destroy entire buildings with just one touch. I loved how the Avengers teamed up to battle this foe, playing off each other’s strengths to create an effective attack. My favorite team-up was with Captain America and Thor when Thor hit Cap’s shield with his hammer and created a large lighting strike that struck down many of the surrounding creatures.

I also loved the fact that in this movie, Tony Stark has a moment of pure selflessness. To destroy the wormhole into space where the alien creatures were appearing from, Tony had to fly a nuclear missile into it, nearly taking his own life in the process. He did it to save Earth and that protection over his home is apparent in many other Avengers movies to come.

Overall, this movie was really interesting to watch. It features Thanos’ henchmen for the first time, the Chitauri, and overall gives a really good plot that kept me invested in the movie the entire time.
