Got Any Backup Protection Plan?

You can get pepper spray or mace online in order to protect yourself.

In Minnesota during the 2020 year so far, there have been 120 cases of sex trafficking.  In California, there have been 1665 cases! Sex traffickers usually target men, women, and children who are vulnerable.

It is very important to know what to do if you are ever in a situation where you are not safe. First, you need to plan ahead and gear up. Do not think something will not happen to you because, that one time, it will catch you by surprise. When I say “gear up,” I mean make sure you have some ways to protect yourself.

Mace: You can get mace at most places but your best bet is to order it online.  Home Depot has many options.

Pepper spray: You can get pepper at any hunting shop like Fleet Farm or Scheels.

Self-defense classes: To gear up, pick up some self defence techniques by taking a class. This will benefit you if you ever encounter someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. One local place you can go to get these classes is the National Karate in Sartell.

When alone, you need to be aware of your surroundings and know where you are going. If you are planning to go to a big event, don’t go alone because it makes you look more vulnerable. Also tell your friends and family where you are going and leave your location on, on your phone so your parents can track where you are.

Also, if you are under the age of 21 you are not able to conceal and carry so your next option would be to carry mace or pepper spray. These two are completely different things.  Mace is made out of chemical compounds.  It is a similar feeling to tear gas and will last up to an hour and thirty minutes of very severe, blurred eyesight. Pepper spray is made out of various types of peppers and will cause short term pain in the eyes and blurry eyesight.

Only use these products for self-defense.  It is possible to end up in court charged with assault or battery if you use these prodcuts. It is mainly up to the judge if the product has been misused or not.  You can be charged up to $1,000 or imprisoned up to three years depending on the jurisdiction. Every state is different depending on their laws and punishment. This is the worst case scenario but the important thing is to just protect yourself, get away from the attacker, and plan ahead.
