Although it may not seem like summer is on its way with rain showers and 60º weather, but soon enough it will be sunny and 85º. When the weather starts to heat up, and you need something to cool you down, central Minnesota has got you covered with ice cream shops all around the area.

Cold Stone Creamery offers a variety of ice cream including shakes, malts, and more!

The closest shop available to Sartellians  is the Cold Stone Creamery located right off of Pine Cone Road. Many Sartell community members have been hitting up this shop regularly, but they are sure to get even more business as the temperature keeps rising. Cold Stone is known for its hard ice cream and its mix-ins that the employees add right in front of your eyes. While you can always choose from a signature creation, I suggest creating your own with what looks good to you. My personal favorites are sweet cream ice cream with cookie dough or banana ice cream with brownie bits. Either option is sure to cure your sweet tooth craving. If you are in the St. Cloud area you can also stop by the Cold Stone located right across from the Barnes and Noble.

Another option in the city of St. Cloud is Fudgin Delicious Ice Cream located inside the Crossroads mall. This is another option to get some delicious hard ice cream. With over 100 flavors of ice cream rotated from day to day, there is sure to be a flavor that intrigues you. The two most popular flavors include Munchie Madness and This $&@! Just Got Serious. This shop recently moved locations from being next to JCPenny’s to now being located in the food court. The owner, Anne McKeehan, started Fudgin Delicious with a shop in Big Lake and Rice, however, when space opened up in the mall the ice cream shop decided to make a new home by moving from its Rice location to St. Cloud. This location brings lots of business and many people visit this shop whether it be in between shopping or just grabbing a quick cone for a tasty treat.

A seasonal ice cream shop that opens specially for the summer season is Mr. Twisty. This summertime shop has all sorts of cold treats to fight off the heat. Mr. Twisty is a walk-up ice cream shop with soft serve ice cream, Italian ice with flavors that alternate weekly, malts, shakes, and twisters. The cheap ice cream cones are a must have especially if you’re looking for an instagramable treat. The ice cream cones come with two edible eyes that add just a little bit of extra fun to the experience. Sartell High School student, Taylor Schoenberg, loves Mr. Twisty and praises it highly.

Mr. Twisty has the best soft serve ice cream in St. Cloud!”

A commonly known place to get ice cream is Dairy Queen where you can get a tasty blizzard.

The option we all know and love is Dairy Queen. There are a ton of Dairy Queens all over central Minnesota the closest of which being right across the river in Sauk Rapids. However, there are Dairy Queens located in St. Cloud, Royalton, Cold Spring, and Albany. Plenty of places to get your Dairy Queen fix! While I would assume all of us have been to a Dairy Queen before, I will still say that it is a great place to stop for a blizzard on a humid day. The shop also comes out with seasonal treats with this summer’s being Oreo Cookie Jar, Summer Berry Cheesecake, Caramel Cannonball, Cotton Candy, Brownie Dough, and S’mores. One bonus to this option is if you are in the mood for a quick meal you can grab that as well. Dairy Queen offers both a sweet treat and a meal option.

Oak Station Coffee & Cone recently opened its doors for the summers in Freeport, MN. While this is maybe the farthest ice cream shop away from Sartell, it will surely be worth your while to stop and visit. For a 30 minute drive on I-94, you can get a coffee, a cone, and a pic next to its barn-like exterior. You can get your ice cream in either a cone or a bowl and there are tons of coffee options to choose from to go along with your ice cream choice. This is a family-friendly option in a small town with a fun atmosphere. Some of the most popular ice cream choices are Banana Cream Pie, Loaded French Toast, and Sticks and Stones. 16 flavors are displayed at a time, but there are more than 40 flavors that get rotated throughout the summer. Be sure to check out this shops retro vibe, but most importantly it’s delicious ice cream that they offer.
