On Tuesday, May 7th the Track and Field team competed at True Team Sections in Brainerd.

This meet was scored uniquely as to display the depth of the team. Every athlete scores points no matter what place they get. For example, if there were 20 runners in a race, first place would get 20 points, second place would get 19 points, and so on.

The team showed off their skills in all of their events. One of the highlights of the meet was in the 4 x 400. In the 400 the baton was dropped in the second to third handoff; however, Nolan Wollum quickly recovered and still ran a whopping 58.6! In all the 4 x 400 consisting of John Engelkes, Ben Kiewel, Nolan Wollum, and Alex Virnig, ran an amazing 3:42.99 taking seventh place overall. Cody Neitzke got fourth in the 110 hurdles going a 16.15, and fourth again in the 300 hurdles going 42.04.

Some other special performances to note were:

Evan Flores jumped a 5’8” in high jump, and 11’6 in pole vault

Brandon Beek threw 126′ 7” in the discus, just barely beating Drake Lalim who threw 126′ 5”

This true team section meet kicks off the higher level competitive part of the season. Following in the next coming month is true team state and the last few dual meets. The Saber Track and Field season will end in June with State if they qualify.
