Tim Horton’s versus Dunn Brothers which one is better?

We all know about the big branches of coffee in the area like Starbucks and Caribou but no one ever gives credit to the other different coffee shops around the St. Cloud area. Dunn Brothers and Tim Horton’s are two of the smaller coffee shops around the area that I went to check out.

I traveled to Tim Horton’s first. This was my first time ever going to see what this place was all about. Tim Horton’s began in Canada and me, being the coffee snob that I am, was not impressed with how their coffee tasted. I ordered a “medium white chocolate mocha latte” which to the people who know coffee know that that is an oxymoron because a latte does not have chocolate or whipped cream but mochas do. That is what differentiates the two.

I also got a sandwich from there and that was very impressive. It only took eight minutes from the time I placed my drink and food order for me to get it. While I was there, I asked the person in the front, Julie, what her favorite part of working at Tim Horton’s is. She said, ” My all-time favorite part about working here is the different people who come in and out of the store along with all the regulars.”

She also said, “My coworkers and I tend to play a game where when someone walks in over the headset we all try and guess what they’re going to order before they even talk to us.”

There were some downsides to Tim Horton’s when I went there. To begin, their espresso coffee was very bitter and tasted like it needed to be ground on a lower setting. Also once I got there they took three minutes for me to receive any customer service even while I was standing at the front cashier spot. Now they did only have two people on staff however I believe customer service is a very crucial role in the business world. Overall, getting a sandwich and a coffee I spent $7.89

After finishing my coffee and sandwich from Tim Horton’s,  I made my way to Dunn Brothers.  I was surprised on how close these two competitors were to each other. Again, I had never been to a Dunn Brothers before or inside the Coborn’s where it is located. One thing I found interesting is that Dunn Bros actually originated in St. Paul, Minnesota and has been expanding as the years go by.

When I entered it felt cozy and welcoming especially being for being inside of a grocery store. Once I got into the store I was happily greeted at the register from this sweet girl named Kylie. We began talking and I asked her, “Okay girl, what is the best thing I can eat here?”

She replied, “I really enjoy our wraps; they’re my favorite. I put our avocado spread on it and then roast it. It does tend to get more on the expensive side.”

I ordered once again a medium white chocolate mocha, so I could compare the drinks as similarly as possible. Along with my drink, I got the wrap Kylie was talking about.

Overall from placing my order to leaving it took around 12 minutes, which isn’t terrible especially after having Ashley especially make my food and carry a conversation with me while working.  Overall I had a great experience there.  It was aesthetically pleasing walking in, my coffee wasn’t overly bitter or sweet and they had exceptional customer service. I spent a total of $11.56 there.

To wrap things up, both coffee shops were exceptional in their own ways.  My opinion if you are looking for a good lunch or breakfast spot I would go to Time Horton’s, but if you’re looking for a good coffee Dunn Brothers is the way to go.
