Hockey has always been a big part of my life. Through all the ups and downs that occur in daily life, I have always felt relief by going and skating or playing hockey. I am fortunate enough to have learned many lessons through playing hockey both on and off the ice.

Hockey is the by far one of the hardest things that I have ever learned how to do. It is difficult learning to skate and to use a stick with a weird curve to shoot a little rubber puck into the net. But many of us find ways to love the sport and keep wanting to play every day of the week.

The most important lesson that I have learned playing hockey for the Sabres is that truly working hard and having a want to get better leads to getting better and perfecting your skills. This can also translate off the ice. If you bring a good attitude and the want to learn into the classroom your grades can then reflect it.

Playing sports during the school year definitely teaches students how to manage time. Juggling practice, homework, and time with family and friends can be very difficult.

I believe that playing hockey in my childhood has given me a hard work ethic and a determination to be successful. There is nothing that I hate more then loosing and hockey has taught me that. The best thing to do after a lose not only in hockey but in life is to learn from your mistakes and better yourself for the future.

Sports, in general, can be very beneficial to student athletes, and it can teach many life lessons.
