Dear big sis,

I’m at a loss for words writing this article. I don’t know where to start, and I can’t even begin to express to you how much you mean to me. You and I have made so many memories, and you have taught me so many lessons, and you have helped me in so many ways. And for that, I want to say thank you.

Thank you for being honest. Whenever I need advice you’re always the first one I run to. You are not afraid to tell me how it is, even if the truth hurts. You help give me a more realistic view of things and help me make the decisions I can’t make on my own.

Thank you for standing up for me. Although we may argue, and somedays even scream at each other, at the end of the day I know you will always have my back, and I will have yours. If Mom or Dad is yelling at me for being snotty or having an attitude and you are around, you will always defend me even if you know Mom and Dad are right, and we are wrong. You take my side and have my back even in situations when it won’t benefit you, yet you do it anyways out of the kindness of your heart and that is something I will forever appreciate.

Thank you for never giving up on me. I know I was probably just your annoying little sister, but truth is, the reason that I always wanted to be around you when I was younger, was because I wanted to be just like you when I grew up. I’d follow you around, hang on to your side, mimic your every move, in hopes that I would someday be just like you. I’m thankful you never gave up on me and never pushed me away when I was younger because I can’t imagine not having you in my life.

My sister and I in Arizona during spring break last year.

Thank you for being my first best friend. You have shown me what a true friend looks like and how to be a good friend to others. You have shown me when to recognize a good friend, and a bad one too, and you have given me the ability to see the good in everyone. At times you have played a role as almost a second mom to me when Mom and Dad were at work and you would bring me and drop me off at soccer practice, bring me to a friend’s houses, buy me McDonald’s when we didn’t feel like cooking, and so much more. You have seen me at my lowest points and also my highest points. You support me, encourage me, build me up, and so much more. You are courageous, outgoing, kind-hearted, funny, kind, smart, driven and the list goes on. I would do anything for you, and I love you more than you know. You are my other half and my best friend, and I hope to be half the person that you are someday.

Love,
Little Sis
