Michael Cohen sentenced to three years in federal prison
December 18, 2018
On December 12, 2018, Michael Cohen became the latest person to be convicted and sentenced by the special investigation lead by Robert Muller involving election tampering during the 2016 presidential election. Michael Cohen was sentenced to three years in federal prison on a multitude of charges.
Back on August 21, 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to tax evasion, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations. Not only was he found guilty on those charges, but he also plead guilty to lying to Congress on November 29th, 2018, although Cohen was not the only one to have been implicated by Robert Mueller. Here is a timeline of the Mueller convictions.
Cohen and his lawyers decided that their best plan of action was to comply with investigators by giving them names and information. After being found guilty, Mr. Cohen appeared to have been visibly distraught. His main defense was that he did it at the orders of the president which put President Trump right back in the spotlight.
On Sunday, December 16th, Trump came out on twitter stating that Mr. Cohen became a “rat” after the FBI allegedly broke into his office. He then redirected the statement to blaming the FBI on their lack of investigating the DFL. The Muller investigation is only set to heat up now as more and more people get convicted.
