Two ankle tattoos; one of a deer, another of triangles.

Students at Sartell High School are participating in the popular trend of getting “inked” after they turn 18. Whether it has a cool back story or simply just looks cool, it is awesome hearing people’s reasons for how and why they chose what to get permanently on their body.

Tattoos are an amazing way to express yourself and the things you may feel passionate about.

Michael Ramseth- “I chose a tree, because when my grandpa died, we planted a tree at our cabin and that was the tree.”

Tattoos are becoming more and more common. They are also becoming less taboo, and that stigma that usually comes with a tattoo is slowly vanishing. Because of the popularity of tattoos, it is said that they no longer have a negative impact on employment. As long as the tattoo is not offensive or derogatory in a visible location, it should no longer impact an employer’s decision solely based on a tattoo.

Megan Sieben- “It means ‘today’ in French, and it is meaningful to me because it is important to cherish every day and make the most of it.”

If you are looking into getting a tattoo when you turn 18, or maybe even before, here are some places in the area that would be worth checking out: Dark Matter Tattoo, Olde Town Tattoo and Piercing, Wingnut Tattoo & Piercing Studio, Cream City Tattoo, and Purple Pain Tattoo Studio. They all have high ratings with either 4 or 5 stars.

Cameron’s behind the ear tattoo.

Cameron Warner- “My tattoo represents mental health awareness, and I wanted to get it behind my ear because it is kind of different and I don’t see it every day, but when I do it is a reminder.”

Some of the most common places to get a tattoo on your body are the wrist, foot, ankle, armband, and the back. The least painful spots to get a tattoo are the finger, the outer area of the shoulder, the hip area, the shin area, and the inner side of the wrist. However, most people say that tattoos, no matter where you get them, are worth the pain and the money.

Blayne Gardner- “There is no good reason behind getting the tree, I just have always wanted one and it makes me think of growth, and growth as a person.”

You need to be 18 before you can walk in and get your own tattoo without your parent’s consent. I know that has been a common trend as people turn 18.
