The beloved show, How I Met Your Mother, will unfortunately be leaving Netflix on November 13th. This hit sitcom aired nine seasons on television, from 2005 until 2014. It has been one of the most popular shows to be taken down from the streaming service, so we will take a look at some of the best one-liners, running jokes, and overall moments from this amazing series.

The first, and one of the most recognizable one-liners originates from our favorite “womanizer,” Barney Stinson: “Haaave you met Ted?” He is obviously referring to Ted Mosby, who clearly needs help with the ladies.

Our next one-liner, and quite possibly my favorite, from none other than Barney Stinson: “It’s going to be legen… wait for it…dary!” although this quote is a classic, there a few other variations of it. Here are some of my personal favorites:

The countless times Barney has used this interpretation of his classic quote-

“It’s gonna be legen — wait for it … and I hope you’re not lactose-intolerant ’cause the second half of that word is — dary!”

When Marshall and Lily ask Barney what middle name he thought of for their newborn son-

Marshall: “What’s the middle name?”
Barney: “Wait for it.”
Marshall: “I’m waiting.”
Barney: “Wait for it.”
Marshall: “I said, I’m waiting.”
Barney: “Wait for it.”
Marshall: “What’s the middle name?”
Barney: “No, the middle name is ‘wait for it.’”

We can’t forget when Barney meets his biological father and uses his famous catchphrase to describe what he thinks about his new dad-

“You’re a master. You are legen… wait for it… daddy. Legendaddy! The man is a god.”

There are countless running jokes throughout the whole series, such as the “eating a sandwich” euphemism for illicit activities Ted, Marshall, and Lilly partook in during college and sometimes in the present day. Or when the whole gang tried to find all of their doppelgangers. Besides those classics, here are a few more of those timeless jokes.

The intervention banner. Whenever an episode features the infamous intervention banner, you know it’s going to be a good one. Check out the hilarious intervention bit below.

One running joke that’s always hilarious is Barney’s job. Whenever someone asks what he does for a living (because no one really knows…) he always nonchalantly laughs and says “please,” then immediately switches to a new subject. As it turns out, his job is literally P.L.E.A.S.E.- Provide Legal Exculpation And Sign Everything.

Nothing that honors How I Met Your Mother would be complete without a little life advice from the cast. Here are a few of the gang’s best and wisest advice from the series:

Because sometimes, even if you know how something’s going to end, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the ride.”

— Ted Mosby

“So really the biggest mistake would be not to make that mistake, because then you’ll go your whole life not knowing if something was a mistake or not.” -Lily Aldrin

“That’s life, you know. We never end up where you thought you wanted to be.” -Marshall Eriksen

“Whenever I’m sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead.” -Barney Stinson

“The future is scary, but you can’t just run back to the past because it’s familiar. Yes, it’s tempting, but it’s a mistake.” — Robin Scherbatsky
