Many of us have heard of the famous Jamaican, Bob Marley. His reggae music has a few classics that almost anyone who doesn’t live under a rock would recognize. Some of his most famous songs include Three Little Birds and Buffalo Soldier. He lived a short life but a memorable one at that, here are some of his best quotes from himself or his music.

“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery.  None but ourselves can free our minds.”

I think what Bob is trying to convey is a great message. Many people are often stuck in their own mind worrying about things that might not actually matter. Social media has given us preconceived notions on how you should or shouldn’t live life. It is up to you to look past that and find yourself to think deeper about what your true values are.

“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.”

A lot of people will do whatever they can to feel rich and wealthy. That’s the goal, right? Nope. What Bob tells us is instead of trying to acquire wealth to achieve greatness, the greatness actually comes from how you are as a person and what you do with it. Wealth is material and goes away; making yourself and others happy lasts forever.

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”

This quote is a great way to remind yourself that any experience you get is what you make of it. For example, have you had a good time at any of the dances this year yet? If you think they are lame, did you go into it thinking it would be that lame? Did you stand there and complain the whole time? It’s all about going into a situation open-minded and ready to experience whatever it brings you. Feel the rain, don’t just get wet!

“You just can’t live in that negative way, make way for the positive day.”

What a nice rhyme to inspire you! Bob is telling us to make a choice: choose to be negative and breed negative thoughts or think the opposite and let the positivity flow in. Cutting out negativity in life and negative thoughts is so important for living a happy life. Who wouldn’t want every day to be positive?
