Many people get turned off when they hear the word feminism. Feminism is the equality between both men and women.  This coming Wednesday is our first Gender Equality meeting. We will be meeting October 11th at 8:40 in Mr. Snyder’s room.

At this meeting, we plan on highlighting Gloria Steinem, also known as the founder of feminism, to discuss what movements and stands she has taken.

The future depends entirely on what each of us does every day; a movement is only people moving.”

— Gloria Steinem

We are planning on meeting every other Wednesday to discuss issues with gender equality both at school and in the community. We plan on highlighting a well-known feminist at the beginning of every meeting, and we also plan on discussing what we can do to spread awareness that week. The spreading of awareness can be as simple as hanging up posters or as extreme as fundraising to donate to the local women’s shelter. We want to push hard to have representatives of each grade as well as an equal amount of men and women.

Further plans include celebrating and decorating the school for International Women’s Day on March 8th. We want to make T-shirts available to everyone to sell and fundraise and donate to an undecided location.

So, clear your schedule for October 11th and come to Snyder’s room to highlight issues around our school and spread awareness. Contact Belle LeBlanc or Monte Belmont for any further information or questions.
