Week One: Pumpkin Power

September 18, 2017

The leaves are changing, the weather is cooling, and pumpkin drinks are back. The hype for it has grown, but do all these pumpkin flavored drinks live up to the excitement?

In this week’s edition of Seasonal Specialties, we will review multiple highly praised pumpkin flavored Caribou drinks, so you know which seasonal beverages you should purchase.

Local Caribou barista, Laura Carlson spoke with us to give us a few tips about the best drinks of the fall. She exclaimed, “I really only like pumpkin white mochas! Those are pretty popular…” She also commented on the busy season: “Yes, it has gotten so much busier with coffeeless coolers!”

I’m pretty lame, but my favorite drink is a latte with whole milk. It’s not super fall-related, but I start drinking them in the fall!

In fourth place: the Hot Pumpkin White Mocha.  While a very seasonal drink, it was not our favorite combination of flavors. The presentation of the drink was very eye-catching, but what lay below the beauty of foam and seasoning did not catch our taste buds. The drink seemed to have too much going for it and was trying too hard to be seasonal. For coffee enthusiasts, this drink might be right up your alley because of its rich seasonal taste, but for people who don’t enjoy coffee too much, we have another drink that might be for you.

The Hot Pumpkin Pie Latte captured third place in our hearts. A creamy combination of foam and pumpkin pie flavoring made it seem like we were kicked back at home, watching Halloweentown, and enjoying a warm Pumpkin Pie. Similar to the Hot Pumpkin White Mocha, the drink display was stunning. This was a very thorough drink, but we agreed would have been better as a decaf. If you are looking for a hot coffee drink with a real pumpkin taste, we are certain this drink is for you.

Coming in second place is the Pumpkin Pie Coffeeless Cooler. The drink had a lot going for it due to the very real pumpkin pie taste combined with a hint of Oreo. Erin Stone described it like, “eating a pumpkin Oreo.” The coffeelessness gave it a sweeter and more savory taste compared to the coffee drinks that were sampled. The only downfall to this almost perfect drink was the fact that it was just too filling. When looking for the best fall drink, you need something to satisfy your taste buds without making you feel too full.

Our opinion of the best Caribou fall seasonal drink is the Iced Pumpkin Pie Latte. There is no scenario where this drink won’t work. Drink it while cheering on your local football team, enjoy it while on a study date, or even have it while driving around looking at the leaves changing colors. No matter where or when you drink the Iced Pumpkin Pie Latte, you will be satisfied. Because this is an iced drink, it is easy to enjoy while nuzzled up in a sweatshirt and jeans. It delivers an extremely real Pumpkin Pie flavor, while still giving off a coffee taste. The only thing wrong with this delicacy was we simply couldn’t get enough of it.
