The 7th grade Sartell boys Sayba A team is now 13-2. With 13 wins they have taken four championships out of five tournaments. The team consists of Eli Schlecht, Evan Templin, Carson Gross, Blake Haus, Lucas Greenlun, Logan Clark, Mason Lund, Alex Erlichman, and Austin Henrichs. They are coached by Darren Haus and Eric Lund.

This past weekend they played in a basketball tournament in Sartell. This was a big tournament for them since it was their “home” tournament.

Their first game was against Brainerd. They did not play their best says some of the players, but they still managed to win with a score of 53-16. Their second game was against Howard Lake the Sayba team really brought the power with their passes, defensiveness, and fighting for the win. During the Howard Lake game, the Sartell boys managed to rack up a huge amount of fouls, and then Howard Lake got bonus. Which means with every extra foul they get to shot one free throw, and if they make it another; but the Sartell boys still managed to pull out a W with a score of 46-15.

After winning those two games they were then onto the championship where they would play Hutchinson, who had an advantage in height, but not in the fight for a win.

The championship was truly a battle till the end. Throughout the 28 minutes of play time, it was a neck and neck game. It started off with a close score, but then Hutchinson took a lead in points with seven minutes left in the first half. By half time the Sartell boys showed what they were made of and closed the huge gap only trailing by a few points. The second half started with a player injured, and not able to play the rest of the game, which was a big loss for the Sartell team. It changed their whole rotation for the game, but they did not let that stop them. Until about four minutes into the second half, it was a back and fourth game, but then it turned into a war.

There were a lot of fast breaks and turnovers on both sides, and soon the Sartell boys took a lead by six points, and then Hutchinson crept back up on them and closed the gap with Sartell leading by two points. With a minute left fouls were flying each and every way, but the Sartell boys managed to claim their four championship with a score of 31-29.

The 7th grade Sartell boys Sayba A team will play next weekend Saturday in Monticello and are hoping to take their 5th championship!
