After her parents divorced, her, her little brother, and her mom stayed in New York City, while her dad moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Ronnie still remains angry with her parents, and her mother decides that it is a good idea that Ronnie and her brother go stay with her father for the summer. This romance novel by Nicholas Sparks became a movie in 2010 starring Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth.

This heartbreaking romance novel is written by Gayle Forman, and was made into a movie in 2014 starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Jamie Blackley.

Jonas has been given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory. He learns the dark and complicated secrets behind the community that he lives in and learns what is in store for him for his future. This utopian/dystopian novel written by Lois Lowry was made into a movie in 2014 starring Taylor Swift and Brenton Thwaites.

Harry Potter is a wizard growing up with his aunt and uncle after his parents were killed. He gets a letter that is inviting him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he meets his two best friends, Hermione and Ron. Harry begins to discover the secrets hidden throughout the castle and the unsettling truth behind his parent’s death. The first novel of this seven book series, written by J.K Rowling, became a movie in 2001, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

The earth has been invaded by a parasitic alien race, called “Souls”. Souls are disguised as humans with bright eyes. Their mission is to take over all humans and put new Souls into each human, so even the Souls have a chance to feel what it is like to live in the human body, while the original human is still trapped inside. The main character Melanie Stryder hides with her little brother; both refuse to be caught by these Souls. As Melanie is caught by a Soul called Wanderer, Wanderer begins to discover Melanie’s mind and what lies inside of it. This thriller action novel by Stephanie Meyer came out as a movie in 2013, starring Saoirse Ronan, Mac Irons, and Jake Abel.

A 10-year-old girl named Opal Buono just moved into a small town in Florida with her father, who is a preacher. While in the local supermarket called Winn-Dixie, Opel hears commotion a few aisles down and ends up finding some of the workers chasing after the dog. After Opel stands and laughs while watching the workers struggle to gain control of the dog, she ends up claiming the dog as hers and takes it home. The story is about the growing relationship of a girl and a dog and the love and bond that forms between them. This children’s adventure novel by Kate Dicamillo was made into a movie in 2005, starring AnnaSophia Robb.

14-year-old Lily Owens lives in Sylvan, South Carolina. She is stuck with the memories of her mother who had passed away and her abusive father. She lives with her father, who she refers to as T-Ray, and her friend/ caregiver, Rosaleen. Lily leaves her home and her abusive father with Rosaleen, to find the mysterious secrets that lie with her mother. While leaving Sylvan, they come upon a town that holds the secrets to her mother’s death. Lily discovers the Boatwright sisters, who take Lily and Rosaleen in and teach her the business of beekeeping. Lily then discovers that she is a lot closer to her mother than she thinks. This novel was made into a movie in 2008 starring, Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, and Alicia Keys.

Set in 1960 Mississippi, a girl named Skeeter returns from college in hopes to be a writer. She decides to learn secrets from interviewing black women who have spent their lives being a housekeeper and taking care of rich white families. She first interviews Aibileen, who is the housekeeper for Skeeters best friend, who collaborate and learn that they both have a lot to say about this city and its secrets. This novel was made into a movie in 2011 starring Viola Davis and Emma Stone.

Set in North Carolina, 40 years into the past, 17-year-old Landon Carter discovers the real definition of love and lost. Landon pulls a prank on another student that goes wrong and the student lands in the hospital. As part of Landon’s punishment, he must participate in community service; this includes starring in the school play, where he meets Jamie Sullivan. Landon decides he wants to start taking life and activities seriously, and asks Jamie for her help, making the two spend most of their time together. The two start to develop unexpected feelings for her. When Jamie reveals her secret to Landon, it puts their love to the test. This coming of age romance novel became a movie in 2002, starring Mandy Moore, and Shane West.

Born solely for the reason to be a bone marrow donor for her ill sister, 13-year-old Anna has gone through many surgeries and medical procedures. Anna is forced to donate a kidney to Kate, her 16-year-old ill sister, but refuses. She ends up hiring a lawyer to get a medical emancipation from her parents so she won’t have to spend the rest of her life in and out of hospitals. This court case will threaten to destroy the family forever. This heart-breaking novel came out as a movie in 2009, starring Abigail Breslin, Cameron Diaz, and Sofia Vassilieva.
