Siblings of Sartell: Brenna and Autumn Fosteson

SHS has many sets of siblings with unique relationships that help to shape their families and make their high school experience interesting.

Hang on for a minute...we're trying to find some more stories you might like.

You hate them. You love them. You are forced to be around them. They live under the same roof as you and eat the same food as you. I think you know whom I am talking about. Siblings.

Our siblings are the ones we’ve known since we can remember. They are both our best friends and our worst enemies. Competing for attention from parents and the front seat is not uncommon. Everyone with a sibling (or two or three) more than likely knows how to scratch, kick, bite, name call, be passive aggressive, and throw shade like no other.

For this installation of Siblings of Sartell, I spoke with Autumn (grade 12) and Brenna Fosteson (grade 10) about how they feel about being one another’s sibling.

M: Do you and your sister generally get along?

Brenna: It kind of depends on the day because she’s like super bipolar, but most days we do… I think.

Autumn: Yeah, with the exception of us getting to school in the morning, usually.

(I definitely understand the fights about getting to school every morning… Trust me.)

M: What are some things you like to do together?

Brenna: We like to go to the mall and get stuff, and watch shows together I guess.

Autumn: We are very into watching New Girl and Grey’s Anatomy. Other than that, we shop a lot. She plays softball; I used to play softball so we do that a lot. Usually I end up hanging out with her and her friends.

(Sitting in silence with your sibling is always enjoyable when your favorite show is playing.)

M: What do you usually fight about with your sibling?

Brenna: (We fight about) Her driving me places. She yells at me about my attitude and things like that.

Autumn: One of us sleeps in too late, or one of us dresses too close to the other one, and just the stupid little stuff like on the way to school in the morning. (We leave for school) like two minutes later than I told her we were going to leave and she’s just like, ‘I’m gonna be late for class.’ K Brenna…

(Gas isn’t free.)

M: If you could change one thing about your sibling what would it be?

Brenna: It would be like her “bipolarness,” like she changes her mind all the time.

Autumn: That’s a hard question. I’m sure she came up with an answer right away. Um… She’s very sassy, and it’s not even sassy just to be sassy. She’s “rude sassy.” She’s just kind of rude sometimes.

M: How do you solve conflicts between each other?

Brenna: We usually just get over it really fast.

Autumn: This is so lame but usually she and I will get in a fight about something and then we won’t talk for like ten minutes. I’ll be in the living room and she’ll be in her bedroom and then I’ll be like, “Brenna come here I found a really funny Vine.” And then we’re fine. Like we just have to find something funny and relatable, and then we’re fine.

AND SHE CAN DANCE!”

— Autumn

(My siblings and I hold grudges, so I don’t really know what it’s like to “just get over it”)

M: If you could trade siblings with some one else, who would you want to be your new sibling?

Brenna: Probably Abby Lahn. She seems pretty cool.

Autumn: (I would trade with) Austin Pietrowski. I want Amber Pietrowski. He can have Brenna.

(Quality switches)

M: Would you break/try to break your sibling out of jail if they committed a crime?

Brenna: Yeah, probably.

Autumn: Of course, our parents work in jails, so just to spite them I would have to try.

(Awe, making the parents proud.)

M: If the cops came looking for your sibling, would you turn him/her in or would you lie to protect him/her?

Brenna: Yeah, probably.

Autumn: It depends on if we were getting along that day. Like if she’s [making me mad] I’d be like, ‘Yeah she’s in her bedroom. She’s just hiding in the closet.’ But if we’re in a good place I’d be like, ‘No, who’s that’?

(You better get on her good side, Brenna.)

M: What is your favorite quality that your sibling possesses?

Brenna: She stands up for people when she cares about them.

Autumn: She is the most random person I know. She’s hilarious. I wish I was as funny as she is. AND SHE CAN DANCE!

(Siblings are fun and it’s good for them to love each other.)
